Design Brief

The design extension of the Ground Floor consists of extension of existing wet kitchen,

a corridor towards a maid room, food storage pantry and lastly the terrace for hanging

laundry. Then, following by the First floor which comprised of a library, studio and

extended balcony. Some of the wall was demolished to make extension possible. The

roof is made with contemporary concrete roof slab.

Quantity dead loads acting on structure

Density of reinforced concrete to be 24kN/m3 according to UBBL

Beam self-weight = 0.2m x 0.32m x 24kN/m3 = 1.54kN/m2

Density of brick to be 19kN/m3 according to UBBL

Brick wall weight = 3.0m x 0.15m x 19kN/m3 = 8.55kN/m2

1. Extended Wet Kitchen

Slab thickness = 150mm

Slab Self Weight = 0.15 x 24kN/m3 = 3.6 kN/m2

2. Food Storage Pantry

Slab thickness = 150mm

Slab Self Weight = 0.15 x 24kN/m3 = 3.6 kN/m2

3. Maid Room

Slab thickness = 150mm

Slab Self Weight = 0.15 x 24kN/m3 = 3.6 kN/m2

4. Toilet

Slab thickness = 100mm

Slab Self Weight = 0.1 x 24kN/m3 = 2.4 kN/m2

5. Terrace

Slab thickness = 100mm

Slab Self Weight = 0.1 x 24kN/m3 = 2.4 kN/m2

6. Corridor

Slab thickness = 100mm

Slab Self Weight = 0.1 x 24kN/m3 = 2.4 kN/m2

Page 7: Jj bstructure individual

7. Balcony

Slab thickness = 100mm

Slab Self Weight = 0.1 x 24kN/m3 = 2.4 kN/m2

8. Library

Slab thickness = 150mm

Slab Self Weight = 0.15 x 24kN/m3 = 3.6 kN/m2

9. Studio

Slab thickness = 150mm

Slab Self Weight = 0.15 x 24kN/m3 = 3.6 kN/m2

Quantity live loads acting on structure

Roof – 0.5kN/m2 (assumed/required in brief)

(According to 4th schedule of UBBL for live load according to the function of the space)

1. Balcony – 1.5kN/m2

2. Wet Kitchen – 3.0kN/m2

3. Maid room – 1.5kN/m2

4. Corridor – 1.5kN/m2

5. Library – 4.0 kN/m2

6. Terrace – 1.5kN/m2

7. Food Storage Pantry – 2.4kN/m2

8. Studio – 2.0 kN/m2

9. Toilet – 2.0 kN/m2

Load distribution plan for beam design

The spaces are analyzed and calculated to find the direction of load distributed to the

beams in specific spaces. The slab is then indicated with arrow to show load

contribution of slab towards the beams.

1. Extended Wet Kitchen

4.855m / 3.685m = 1.32 < 2 ( two way slab)

2. Food Storage Pantry

3.835m / 2.500m = 1.53 < 2 ( two way slab)

3. Maid Room (a)

2.665m / 2.425m = 1.09 < 2 ( two way slab)

Maid Room (b)

3.835m / 2.355m = 1.63 < 2 ( two way slab)

4. Toilet

2.425m / 1.17m = 2.07 > 2 ( One way slab)

5. Terrace

3.835m / 3.720m = 1.03 < 2 ( two way slab)

6. Corridor

4.855m / 1.17m = 4.15 > 2 ( One way slab)

7. Balcony

4.855m / 3.685m = 1.32 < 2 ( two way slab)

8. Library

6.145m / 3.835m = 1.6 < 2 ( two way slab)

9. Studio

4.855m / 3.835m = 1.26 < 2 ( two way slab)
