Overall purpose of the post

It allows us to demonstrate daily, that our personnel are available to provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable individuals. The post holder will co-ordinate and develop the Fire & Emergency Support Services for our Wiltshire and Avon service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis, co-ordinate the Fire & Emergency Support Service (FESS). This will include (but is not limited to):

Ensuring that the service is always beneficiary focused

Recruiting, training and motivating all volunteers

Ensuring that there are enough volunteers to maintain an effective service

Creating and maintaining volunteer duty rotas

Inputting into quarterly reporting requirements

Monitor the evaluation of service quality including user feedback

To recruit and line manage sufficient numbers of volunteers to maintain a 24 hour level of cover

To deliver presentations and training to volunteers and staff

To ensure that policies concerning volunteer recruitment and retention are fully implemented

To ensure all administration records are managed and maintained effectively

To undertake and set up volunteer recruitment awareness events across the area for the service

To implement and evaluate BRC policies concerning FESS competencies, training and service delivery

To ensure that the service complies with Health and Safety requirements

To engage with external agencies to promote and develop the service

To provide reports on activity and finance as requested and to use statistical information to help develop the service

To be actively part of the BRC emergency response function

To be committed to the Fundamental principles and Equal Opportunities policies of the BRC

To undertake any other duties as requested by senior managers

Person Specification

JOB TITLE: Service Coordinator FESS

Band:

education & Training

5 GCSEs C or above (inch Maths & English) or equivalent

Experience

Experience of delivering high quality services to the public **

Experience of leading and motivating volunteers **

Experience of maintaining effective working relationships**

Experience of working in the voluntary sector

Experience of creating and monitoring budgets

Experience of delivering presentations to a wide range of individuals**

Knowledge / Technical skills

Knowledge of the service to be coordinated or willingness to undertake training**

IT literate. Experience of using email, word processing and spread sheet packages.

Ability to contribute to the development of operating plans.

Health & Safety practice

Understanding of how to improve service quality for the benefit of users.

Ability to collate and interpret a range of management information including statistical information and user feedback.

Personal Skills

Excellent communication skills**

Ability to work as part of a team**

Organisational skills

Ability to deliver presentations**

Ability to manage own time and workload, and respond to and prioritise a range of competing demands.
