Good afternoon, it’s Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at _____________ o’clock and you’re listening to

90.3 WKNJ-FM, Union, New Jersey, and I’m _____________ with the news.

In local news a Bloomfield man was sentenced to 3 years of probation after reportedly scamming

Home Depot out of nearly $500,000 worth of merchandise. Daniel Chalet (CHA-LE), 29,

pleaded guilty in January 2014 to conspiring to commit wire fraud for a scheme that ran from

2009 through 2012, New Jersey federal prosecutors say. Prosecutors said that Chalet (CHA-LE)

would fill two shopping carts with identical items, hide one of the carts somewhere in the store

then proceed to purchase the other cart. After bringing the purchased cart outside, Chalet (CHA-

LE) and his accomplices would return to the store with the receipt and pick up the second

shopping cart. If questioned Chalet (CHA-LE) would simply say that he forgot to purchase an

inexpensive item then leave the store a second time with the unpaid filled shopping cart. U.S.

District Court Judge Jose Linares ordered Chalet to pay back $472,465 in restitution, which is

the approximate amount of which Chalet and his accomplices received from refunds and store

credits. This elaborate plan was executed throughout the tri-state area.

Former prosecutor Joseph Bocchini (BO-CHINNY) is being sued with charges of sexual

harassment, inappropriate touching and explicit emails. The notice, received on Monday at the

Mercer County Counsel's Office in Trenton, alerting the county of the upcoming lawsuit and

seeks to preserve electronic records including emails Bocchini (BO-CHINNY) sent with the title

"breast of the day." A woman who came forward under a fake name was repeatedly subjected to

"unwanted and unwelcomed acts of sexual harassment". Robin Lord, the attorney representing

the anonymous client stated that she has reason to believe that her client is not the only victim of

sexual abuse by Bocchini (BO-CHINNY). Bocchini (BO-CHINNY) has been unresponsive

when it comes to text messages and voice mails on Monday as attorneys and prosecutors have

been attempting to get a hold of him.

The debate over same sex marriage continues in the Supreme Court today. Thousands of gay

couples have married this year after many lower court rulings have been tossed out regarding

same sex marriages. However, a loss at the Supreme Court would be a devastating blow to the

gay rights movement. A final verdict from the Supreme Court isn’t expected until June, but the

today could possibly be a major turning point for the court case.

The riots in Baltimore continue even against the request of Freddie Gray’s family, who requested

peace on the streets the day he was put to rest. Freddie Gray was the twenty five year old that

died from spinal injuries after he was physically abused under police custody fifteen days ago.

Gray had his history of run ins with the law with a total of 20 criminal court cases against him.

Gray’s funeral was attended by White House officials and the family of Eric Garner, another

recent victim of police brutality. Congressman Elijah Cummings of Maryland spoke at the

funeral speaking up for Gray’s family and against the police brutality that has been recently

affecting the African American community. Investigators are aware he was not given proper

medical treatment after injuries to his voice box and neck, but what exactly happened to him

under police custody is still unclear.

Hawaii has become the first state which is set to raise the smoking age to 21 to purchase

cigarettes and other tobacco related products. The bill has already been signed by Governor

David Ige, which has set to change the legal smoking age from 18 to 21 on January 1st, 2016.

New York as well as dozens of other cities and towns have already raised the smoking age 21 but

the majority of cities and states have the legal smoking age set to 18. "This bold step will reduce

smoking among young people, save lives and help make the next generation tobacco-free," said

Matthew L. Myers, president of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Hawaii has also put an

official ban on the use of electronic cigarettes wherever real cigarettes are not allowed.

In international news…

The death toll for the devastating earthquake in Nepal passes 4,400 with over 8000 injured. The

earthquake left a total of over eight million people that are in need of urgent care, one million of

those are children. The earthquake struck the Himalayan nation on Saturday and the chance to

find the remaining survivors is still diminishing. The earthquake is said to be the deadliest

natural disaster that has occurred in over 80 years. Relief efforts are continuing throughout the

week, however it has been very difficult to get aid to the country, especially to those in remote

locations. In Kathmandu (KAT-MAN-DO), a capital city of shattered temples and toppled

houses, people were paying their last respects to those taken by the earthquake. The official

death and injury toll is unfortunately still expected to rise as wreckage is still being cleared away

every day.

Hundreds of decomposed corpses were discovered in the streets of Damasak (DAMN-A-SACK),

a northeastern Nigerian town. The town had recently been freed from the terror group Boko

Haram. The victims included men, women and children murdered by Boko Haram when they

seized the area in November, said Abubakar Kyari (ABU-BAKAR-KEY-ARI), a senator-elect

the corpses there has been a joint operation with the terrorist group Boko Haram and the

Nigerian-Chadian military operation. The joint military operation is part of the continuing

collaborative effort at crushing the Islamist group that has its attack radius to Niger, Chad and

There is expected to be a high market demand for pitchers this year throughout major league

baseball. The season ending injuries to Brandon McCarthy and Adam Wainwright means the

trade market for pitchers could move much quicker this year than expected. The Dodgers,

Cardinals and Blue Jays are among the top teams that will most likely be looking to make

aggressive trade moves before the trade deadline at the end of July.
