K E N O S I S

May the Holy Family of Nazareth

Fill your hearts with love, Bless your home with harmony and

abundant graces!

From: Fr. Frankie, Fr. Pat, Br. Buddy, And The MSOS Staff

My dear Sisters and Brothers! A blessed Christmas and a New Year filled with love! We, human beings, generally dislike the dark. When there is a power outage, we right away look for a flashlight, or push the one in our cell phones, light a candle, or turn on a rechargeable lamp. We do anything to see it defeated. In the great mystery of God becoming flesh in Jesus lying in the manger with Mary and Joseph, God breathes anew in the darkness of sinful humanity as He first did when He created the world in Genesis. Later on, through Jesus Christ’s words and deeds, people experienced His compassion, mercy and deliverance from the power of darkness. He brought new life, new energy, and new hope for all. He summoned and gave power to those who followed Him to do what He did. As Jesus’ pilgrim sisters and brothers, stewards of God’s manifold blessings, it is our blessing and responsibility to continue breathing this new energy, new life, and hope into where we are. Our God-given collective energies, nourished especially by the Eucharist we celebrate, may transform our lives, our country and our world torn by the darkness of war, greed, hunger, injustice and poverty. Let us always keep in our hearts and minds what Jesus told us: “And behold, I am with you always until the end of the age.” (Matt. 28: 20) I keep all of you always in my prayers especially in the Eucharist. In Jesus, our Bread of Life, Fr. Frankie C. de los Reyes, SSS Pastor

Make a Gift Through an IRA Charitable Rollover

Assuming the Tax Cut & Jobs Act makes its way through Congress and is signed by President Trump as expected this week, the standard deduction will rise to $12,000 for individuals, $18,000 for heads of households and $24,000 for married couples. For many Americans, it may become more beneficial to take the standard deduction in 2018 and beyond instead of electing to itemize their deductions. If you take the standard deduction, that means that you will no longer receive a deduction for your charitable contributions. For individuals 70½ and older, however, you may still be able to reduce your tax liability by instead making a distribution (up to $100,000) directly from your IRA to qualified charities, such as your Parish, Mary, Star of the Sea Education Foundation, Bishop’s Circle, or other worry causes. By making qualified direct distributions to charity from your IRA, the amount given will count toward your required minimum distribution, but not be subject to income tax. It is also possible to have your regular weekly contributions set up as direct distributions from your IRA. If you plan on making charitable contributions outside of your IRA, you may want to make them before the end of the year to ensure that the contributions are deductible. For more information about how you and Mary, Star of the Sea can benefit from an IRA charitable rollover, contact your tax preparer, the Parish Office or the Diocesan Office of Development and Stewardship.

Offertory Envelopes & On-Line Giving

Important Notices: If you haven’t already picked up your 2018 Donation Envelopes, it will be in

your mailbox within this week. There has been a slight omission on the envelopes – your individual

Parish numbers were omitted on most of the envelopes; therefore, you may need to write it in when

using the envelopes. The printers have been notified and adjustments are being made. Just another

reason to perhaps consider on-line giving which is paperless and worry-free, since your donations are

automatically deducted from your account. For assistance in considering on-line giving, please

contact the Parish Office at 734-0396. Mahalo!

Eternal Rest

God Is With You Always

What’s in a name? In the case of Emmanuel, it’s all in that name. “God-with-us” in the infant whose birth we celebrate; “God-with-us” in Jesus’ forgiving sinners; “God-with-us” in Jesus weeping over a friend’s death; “God-with-us” in feeding thousands with bread and countless people with His word; “God-with-us” carrying the cross; “God-with-us” on Christmas morning and in His last words, “I am with you always.” God is with you today and always because Jesus has lived up to His name. Is there someone you ought to be with tonight?

“I have been with you wherever you went.”
