Sunday, March 20, 2016 is a great day for the St. Mark family as we celebrate Confirmation Sunday. It is also the beginning of Passion Week…Jesus making His way into Jerusalem in which becomes the final week of His earthly ministry. We celebrate this week beginning with four of our young students making a public profession of faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord. Those students we stand beside are: Jackson Aber- nathy, Karly Bazinet, Alex Prewitt and Erik Struthwolf. Over the last six plus weeks these fine young folks, along with their parents, mentors and Confirmation Leaders (Pastor Byron Fair, Courtney Fair and Melanie Burkhalter) have been studying, experiencing, reasoning, serving and sharing in the mission of what it means to be a Christ Follower. I am thankful that each of us has an opportunity to share in worship with these fine young disciples, their families and their mentors in this blessed day of their spiritual journey. On Confirmation Sunday I am always keenly aware of our commitment as a church family to these young people at their baptisms. On that special day in their life we are asked for our commitment to stand alongside them as well as their parents as their spiritual journey begins. Our response at baptisms such as theirs is: “We will nurture you in Christ’s holy church, that by our teaching and example you may be guided to accept God’s grace for yourself, to profess your faith openly, and to lead a Christian life.I pray that on this special day it will be a spark for our own spiritual lives to remember our commitment to Jesus Christ, and our desire for Jesus to be our Savior and Lord. As we enter and journey through Holy Week it is my prayer that our relationship to Jesus will grow even stronger. Palm Sunday reminds us that as Jesus made His way into Jerusalem that day, many were gathered on the roadside…some to jeer at Jesus…some were with Jesus…and some were just bystanders watching what was/or might happen. It is my hope that we will find ourselves this Easter season walking with Jesus and not just being a bystander. If the needs of the lost of the world/the community we live in are ever going to be met…it has to be Christ Followers who step out to meet them. It’s the same as stepping out into the street with Jesus as He makes His way to give His life for us…we are called to give ours for others. Remember, We are Building God’s Kingdom Together John V. Tickets will be available through Larry White, Paul Bourgeois or through the church office. If you would like childcare you MUST contact Melanie @339-7476. Thank you!
