MANOUCHEKA CELESTE The UNLV Department of Sociology Brown Bag Lecture Series Welcomes: Dr. Celeste is Assistant Professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in African-American and African American Diaspora Studies (IDP). Her research interests include media representations of blackness, immigration, gender, and class, with a focus on the United States and the Caribbean, particularly Haiti. Her book Race, Gender, and Citizenship in the African Diaspora: Travelling Blackness” is under contract with Routledge. Her chapter "Black Women and US Pop Culture in the Postidentity Era: The Case of Beyoncé Knowles" was recently published in Transatlantic Feminisms: Women and Gender Studies in Africa and the African Diaspora, edited by Rodriguez, Ampofo, and Tsikata. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication and a Graduate Certificate in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Washington.
