EO MAMMALSA TOOL TOWARDS THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE WHALE-WATCHING ACTIVITYCopernicus for Marine Environment: Application for marine mammals surveillance and monitoring environmental public management
Identification of biological hotspots for cetaceans and support the management of marine conservation areas
Modeling the relationships between oceanic environment data - acquired by the Sentinel satellites S3A and S3B - and biological data
Results will be incorporated in a governmental application – RedPROMAR – to satisfy the needs of a wide variety of users
Scientific and Technical goals• Use of remotely sensed environmental parameters to identify biological hotspots
for cetaceans and foster the management of marine conservation areas and protection of significant species in an area heavily targeted by the whale watching industry
• Creation of a Macaronesian habitat prediction model for marine mammals by integrating EO data and Copernicus services with biological data available from a well-established collaborative network, and support the sustainability of the whale watching activity
• Use of satellite data in marine mammal surveillance and monitoring
• Improve marine data network to be used by a wide variety of users in different domains.
EO MAMMALS prediction algorithms ran with thedefined input variables for the generation ofgeographic data to identify biological hotspots forcetaceans and create a Macaronesian habitatprediction model
