Sahil Aggarwal of Chandigarh City Beautiful Our weekly meeting on September 29, 2017 was a joint meeting of Clubs of Zone 3. President Rtn. Dr. Rita Kalra welcomed Assistant Governor (Zone 3) PP Rtn. Rakesh Mittal, the Presidents and members of the Clubs of Zone 3. She also welcomed the chief guest Senior Advocate Mr. D.S. Bali „Daman‟ and the guest of honor Mr. Deepak Dhiman of Dainik Bhaskar. Mr. D.S. Bali Mr. D.S. Bali „Daman‟ was introduced by PP Rtn. Gurdip S. Deep. Born on September 17, 1938 in a tiny village Kot Duni Chand in District Lahore now in Pakistan, Mr. Bali studied in DAV High School in Lahore. After partition the family shifted to Karnal where he did his graduation from Dyal Singh College Karnal. He did LL.B from from Delhi University. He started his practice in Karnal as an advocate and was public prosecutor at Karnal and Hissar. He shifted to Punjab & Haryana High Court in 1972 and was designated as Senior Advocate in 1989. He is Charter President of Lions Club Chandigarh Central. He has been serving the community with dedication doing various projects for uplifting the poor and needy. From his childhood he was fond of Urdu, and his uncle inspired him to write. Due to paucity of time and professional commitments he could not write earlier. In November 2015 Mr. Bali‟s first book of Urdu poetry „Khayal-e- Daman‟, was released at Manav Mangal Smart School, Mohali. Mr. Bali entertained the large gathering of Rotarians of Zone 3 and their spouses with his lively poetic recitation of Urdu shero shayari, showing the realities of life, which was repeatedly applauded by the audience. Bali, „Ahasse Daman‟ was launched by the Guest of Honour, Honorary Rtn. Deepak Dhiman, VP Dainik Bhaskar. In this book Mr. Bali expressed special thanks to Director of Manav Mangal Smart School, Mohali Mr. Sanjay Sardana (Past President of Lions Club Chandigarh Central), Advocate Salil Dev Bali and his brother Mr. S.K. Bali. President Manjit Hundal presents a memento to Mr. D.S. Bali Both the books comprises of beautiful and thought-provoking verses of poetry in Urdu. For the convenience of the non- Urdu reading persons both the books are having translation of each and every verse in Hindi. Our weekly meeting on September 29, 2017 was a joint

meeting of Clubs of Zone 3. President Rtn. Dr. Rita Kalra

welcomed Assistant Governor (Zone 3) PP Rtn. Rakesh

Mittal, the Presidents and members of the Clubs of Zone 3.

She also welcomed the chief guest Senior Advocate Mr.

D.S. Bali „Daman‟ and the guest of honor Mr. Deepak

Mr. D.S. Bali „Daman‟ was

introduced by PP Rtn. Gurdip S.

Deep. Born on September 17,

Walkathon on World Elders Day on 01.10.2017

Rotary Chandigarh Midtown, IPS Chandigarh and IDA Mohali collaborated to spread awareness about World Elders day

through a walkathon from the lake to Kartar Aasra orphanage. The message through posters and slogans were carried by

volunteers, 40 of them from all the three organizations. The drive was appreciated by Chandigarh residents who walk

regularly on the lake and were joined by some of them.

The residents of old age home and orphanage enjoyed the home cooked food brought by Rotarians in their dining room as

part of Annapurna day celebration .The President IPS Chandigarh Dr. Sanjay Kalra informed that with the help of his team

from 5 dental colleges of surrounding region a total of 65 dentures were provided to senior citizens free of cost. Two of

them received the denture at Kartar Aasra and enjoyed their meal.

The Rotarians organized a medical screening camp for all. It included ECG, urine test, BP check, dental and medical

examination and treatment. They were provided free medicines. Dr. Rita Kalra informed that it was a well spent Sunday to

restore dignity through service. Total patients registered 70, ECG 18, lab test 16, dental scaling 35 and fillings 7.

Anniversary of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

In addition to Mahatma Gandhi‟s birth anniversary, October 02, 2017 is the 3

rd anniversary of Swachh Bharat Abhyan, a campaign

officially launched by the Govt of India to keep the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country's cities and towns and its rural

areas clean. Rtn. Salil Chopra, District Co-Chair, Swachh Bharat said, “Our District 3080 is geared up to participate in this event.”

We at Rotary Chandigarh Midtown have been seriously taking up this swachhta campaign on regular basis for the last three years

for which we have been recognized at our District level also. Led by President Dr. Rita Kalra, Rtn. Dr. Rajinder K. Sharma, Rtn.

Salil Chopra and Rtn. Renu Chopra, joined by Rotaractors and Interactors on 02.10.2017 we held our routine abhiyan, the 16th one

in the current Rotary year at Village Dadumajra, and taking special interest in environment too by planting Neem trees in the

village. This was followed by a road show on Swachh village and then opening of a computer center also.

Swachhta and water saving abhiyan on 24/9 at Sector 20 market, Panchkula by Rtn. Salil Chopra and 7 Interactors, involving the

shopkeepers and public to remove garbage, and in the process building Rotary image by earning high appreciation for vigorously

continuing this awareness campaign
