On the Ryde Rollercoaster Run (left to right) Gail Connolly (General Manager, City of Ryde), Clr Jerome Laxale (Mayor) and his daughters, Clr George Simon and Clr Roy Maggio and his daughter. The Mayor’s Community Message Ryde Rollercoaster It was on for young and old last Sunday, when the third Rollercoaster fun run event took place at Putney. Around 250 locals took part in the 3.2km run/walk, relay events and teachers challenge to raise money for the Ryde Royal Rehab and Baro Pite Clinic that provides free healthcare in Timor. Eastwood Plaza Night Markets I’m very pleased to announce that our first Night Markets at Eastwood Plaza will start this Saturday 14 November from 4.00 – 10.00pm. There’ll be a festive atmosphere with bright lights and food stalls serving everything from noodles to pop cakes, as well as Turkish delights and Japanese style treats, plus fashion bargains, jewellery, chips, toys and roving entertainment including children’s activities and free face painting. Come along for a fun night out and support this great initiative and see why Eastwood has gained the reputation as a food and entertainment hub. The Night Markets will be held every Saturday night for the next six months. If you are a stall holder and would like to get involved, email [email protected] or call Kelly on 0402 790 833. Don’t miss it. Also coming up, on Friday 4 December we’ll be showing ELF the Movie in Eastwood Plaza, starting at sundown (approx. 8.00pm). Playground Renewal It’s important that our rates are used on facilities that our residents love. The Watts Park play area in Ryde (near Denistone East) is the latest local playground to undergo a major upgrade. The new Watts Park Playground has been designed in response to consultation with the local community and the works include a new access path and scooter track. The new play equipment includes a combination unit with slide, monkey bars, climbing wall and fire pole, as well as a new seesaw, seat swing and a refurbished existing swing. While the kids tire themselves out on the new play equipment, parents can relax on the new seating located near the play area or have a picnic on the soft ground cover. Well located and with a coffee shop nearby, it’s a great little park that I’m very happy Council has upgraded. Sincerely, Clr Jerome Laxale - Mayor Phone 9952 8222 or email [email protected] The City of Ryde, Hunter’s Hill and Lane Cove Councils say “Yes to a JRA”. We have developed a collaborative model of a Joint Regional Authority (JRA) to address the NSW Government’s Fit for the Future proposal. The JRA will centralise key functions across the three council areas, including subregional planning, procurement, infrastructure delivery and other services where economies of scale exist. Under this option, each Council and its community retains their unique local identity and, most importantly, the City of Ryde is not split.
