GEW 2013: Featured Activities

Startup OpenStartup Open is a global competition to identify and recognize startup companies founded between GEW 2011 and GEW 2012. The ‘GEW 50’ is being announced today. The overall winner will be announced on the opening day of GEW and receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Rio de Janeiro for the Global Entrepreneurship Congress.

Startup Weekend / Global Startup BattleOn the two weekends surrounding GEW, more than 1,200 startup teams in 150 cities will frantically build a company from scratch in 54 hours. Each city will crown a local winner that will advance to the Global Startup Battle




Global Student Entrepreneur AwardsStudents who own and run businesses while attending a high school, college or university battle for the title of Global Student Entrepreneur of the Year and their share of over $150,000 in business support services.

Cleantech Open Global Ideas CompetitionFinalists from more than 20 countries unveil potential breakthrough cleantech ideas in one of six industry categories; air water & waste, energy efficiency, renewable energy, green building, smart power and transportation. For the first time, a sub-competition is being held specifically for youth .

Get in the RingHosted in the Netherlands, entrepreneurs present their business plan to investors in an effort to secure up anywhere from €100,000 – €1,000,000 in startup capital.




GEW Policy SurveyThe GEW Policy Survey assesses the most important public policies essential to encouraging startups to launch and scale. A report is planned for release just ahead of GEW.

Creative Business CupNew and revolutionary business ideas with strong market potential in the creative industries from more than 25 countries square off in the global finals in Copenhagen, Denmark.

StartUp Cup StartUp Cup is a global network of locally driven business model open to any type of business idea. There will be dozens of StartUp Cup’s handing out awards during GEW and two (Tulsa and Cairo) are highlighted.
