YOUTH COUNCILS

4-H FOOD AND FITNESS TEAMS

10 Reasons Why… 4-H & Food & Fitness are Great Partners!

1. The Iowa 4-H Youth Development Program provides opportunities for youth to develop skills they can use now and throughout their life.

2. Iowa 4-H builds upon a century of experience as it fosters positive youth development that is based on the needs and strengths of youth, their families, and communities.

3. Iowa 4-H follows the principles of experiential learning. 4-H’ers ―learn by doing.‖ 4. 4-H’ers pledge their ―Health to better living‖ every time they meet. 5. 4-H programs are open to all young people from fourth grade through grade 12. 6. There is an ISU Extension and Outreach office in every county willing to support FFI youth teams

and coaches. 7. Iowa 4-H draws on the knowledge base of Iowa State University and other institutions of higher

education in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture. 8. The Iowa 4-H Program's vision and mission statements clearly view youth as partners working

with caring adults, and as full participants in planning and working for individual and community change.

9. The Iowa 4-H program ensures that every youth will have the opportunity to participate in 4-H experiences that strengthen a young person’s sense of belonging, generosity, independence, and mastery.

10. Elected Extension councils in northeast Iowa have committed funds and staffing to ensure FFI Youth Team success!

For more information on joining 4-H, contact your County Extension Office. To learn more about the Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative go to www.iowafoodandfitness.org.
