I want to thank the students, staff and parents for their contin- ued support of Harding Middle School. We continue to focus daily on improving student achievement. This is a good time to sit with your child and review their progress to date and help them to set achievement goals for the rest of the year. Congratulations to the 72 students who made the Distinguish Honor Roll for the sec- ond quarter. These students earned an A in all of their classes. 142 students attained Honor Roll in the sec- ond quarter. Honor Roll recipients had an overall grade point average of 3.5 or better. There were 115 stu- dents who earned a place on the Merit Roll for the second quarter, with a GPA or 3.0 or better. The names of these students are listed later in the publication. Please join me in celebrating their success! February is a busy month, especially for eighth graders, who will be starting to plan their schedules for the High School. The transition from middle school to Lakewood High School can be daunting for both parents and students, but LHS and Harding are committed to making the course selection process as easy as possible. possible.

Eighth grade parents should look for a copy of the High School Course Guide to come home with

their children in the next couple of weeks. Also, the High School Guidance Department is hosting a meeting

for parents who have questions about the high school course selection process.

MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

As we move forward with the second half of the school year, much is happening in the Lakewood City Schools to be excited about. Thanks to the generosity of our community, the district is moving full steam ahead with the planning phase of our final construction project that will see the remaining of our schools re-built. The Board has approved a transition plan for our students at the three affected elementary schools. Grant will be housed at St. James, Lincoln at St. Luke and Roosevelt at the former Franklin Elementary. Lakewood City Academy, which will be displaced by Roosevelt, will head to the former Taft Elementary. Our transi-tion plan was developed upon analyzing priorities that parents and community members provided to the ad-ministration. Our next big step is to secure architects so that the design process may begin. Once the architects are in place, we will be holding community meetings to solicit input regarding the design and construction phases. This process worked incredibly well in the first two phases with excellent results and we expect the same in our final phase. Jeffrey W. Patterson Superintendent Board of Education Linda G. Beebe, President Emma Petrie Barcelona, Vice President Tom Einhouse Edward Favre Betsy Bergen Shaughnessy

Attention 8th grade Students and Parent: During the first week of February, Ms. Hallberg, Harding Guidance Counselor, will be going into the 8th grade Social Studies classrooms to provide an introduction to the High School scheduling process. Stu-dents will also be given a Course Selection Catalog to take home and review at that time. After taking some time to review the course catalog with parents and guardians, students will be called down individu-ally to complete the scheduling process with Ms. Hallberg. Individual meetings with students will begin the week of February 17th and continue through the end of the month. Please contact Ms. Hallberg with any questions you have regarding the scheduling process.
