The Public
Shook the public’s faith in politicians
America’s self confidence was drained
America’s lack in faith in the government was shown through the films created in the 1970’s
The Interview
Q: Was there a certain genre of movies that was more popular than the rest? (i.e. inspirational sports films -rocky-, thriller films -jaws- etc)
A: A lot of movies were about renegades, or men who would go against the system to solve problems. Dirty Harry was a cop who always broke the rules to get the back guy. Charles Bronson had movies about getting revenge on people when the police couldn't catch them. Since people were made at the government, people liked movies about people who took things into their own hands and solved problems.
Everyday Life
Now that everyone could afford a TV, movies and television were a huge part of everyday life
3D glasses- watch from home: “Most exciting- JAWS 3D!!! Everyone rushed to buy 3D glasses- broadcast 3D on
television
Stars became bigger, more diverse genres appeared.
Movies like Grease and Saturday Night Fever not only made movies popular, but made John Travolta a teen heart-throb
Thrillers, comedies, action, sports, and musicals were all becoming popular: “…Rocky was a nice relief- it didn’t use foul language or sexual overtones, it was
just inspirational- rooting for the underdog became the American theme.”
Television Shows
First time TV shows started to show diversity The Jefferson’s- show about a middle class family-
showed inter family dynamics (teen rebellion)Many shows incorporated racial issues as
well The Jefferson’s- the family’s neighbors were African
American as well as a interracial married coupleAfrican Americans were shown as being
