OUR MISSIONOur mission was to fly around the world exploring different types of energy. We educated others on how to conserve energy and make their homes more energy efficient. We are here to save the world from wasting energy! We analyzed energy through an assortment of experiments and activities. For example, we were given an energy kit that included energy efficient products to use and install at home to help save money. This kit included a water flow bag to help us test our water efficiency, and a thermometer that showed an efficient temperature for our freezers and refrigerators. We also received a low flow showerhead, an LED night light and other energy efficient products.

We learned about kinetic and potential energy from GIZMOs, and we learned about waves from labs with Slinkies. Finally, we used all of our new energy knowledge to teach 5th graders in our school district about energy using games and hands-on activities. We taught them how they use energy in their everyday lives and what to do to save energy.

Why do you keep making waves with me?

Science Fair and Invention Convention

Through Science Fair and Invention Convention,we discovered different ways to save energy. Some Supersavers came up with inventions that amazed all of us, while others performed unique experiments to test their

hypothesis. The Supersavers who did Invention Convention learned how to test and make a

product better, while the Supersavers who did Science Fair learned more about the Scientific

Method. The Supersavers learned how to successfully conduct experiments. Someday,

these Supersavers may be the leaders in saving energy!

These Supersavers did a great

job with their projects!

Supersavers save energy everyday!

E3 in ClassWe did a wave lab to learn how transverse and longitudinal waves move. Activities included tapping tuning forks on a table which helped us learn about how different frequencies have different amounts of energy. Another activity we did was to tie a string to a fork and put the string up to our ear and then tapping it against the table. This helped us learn how sound waves travel through a medium. The Supersavers also used a slinky and pushed it back and forth to show the difference between longitudinal and transverse waves.

What do you hear?

Don’t trust atoms... they make up everything!

E3 Activities At SchoolThe Supersavers learned about watts and converting watts into kilowatts during class. We learned about the differences between incandescent, compact fluorescent and LED light bulbs and how much they cost to purchase and the amount of energy they consume to produce light. In class, we used a kilo-watt meter to learn which household items use the most kilowatts and then we and analyzed the data to create a graph.

’ I’m not lazy, I’m

in energy conservation mode.

Is this energy efficient?

What did the electric eel say?

Watts up!

e3 HomeworkDuring our Ohio Energy Project unit, we worked on many energy labs. All 7th grade Science students took home a kit with items to install at home to increase home energy efficiency. We completed homework to learn about energy efficiency and energy conservation in our homes. The homework helped us understand how much it costs to pay for the electricity used by different light bulbs in our homes and things we can do to save energy.

The Energy Supersavers calculated their personal energy usage and looked for changes they could make in order to save energy.

It’s a homework “THING”!

Fantastic!

OEP At HomeOur main goal was to install the materials in the kits and share the information with our families about energy efficiency and conservation. We also increased our personal awareness of the energy we use and how to wise energy consumers.Contents of our e3 kits:

- CFL and LED light bulbs- 3 Aerators- 1 Showerhead - Refrigerator/Freezer Thermometer- Weather Stripping- 1 LED Night light- Water Temperature Thermometer- Water Flow Bag

These Supersavers installed energy efficient CFL and LED lightbulbs at home

Refrigerator/freezer thermometers determine if temperatures are set at an efficient level

We need to install the aerator - the water flow bag shows that we are wasting water at home

This Supersaver installs a low flow showerhead

Learning About Light Sabers

A Supersaver battling with Mr. Amoroso.

On this day, we had tons of fun learning and got to battle with the ultimate weapon: A lightsaber! Supersaver Nicole

and her dad, Mr. Amoroso, taught us how lightsabers work. To build a working lightsaber, many different parts

have to be connected to transform energy into light. A lot of energy was needed to power a light saber, so LED light bulbs are used in the lightsaber to save energy. Different combinations of LEDs and other pieces are required to

make different blade colors.

The lightsabers fascinated all the young Supersavers, and

we were eager to get our hands on them. Mr. Amoroso taught us some moves, and

we got to battle with the master himself!

None of the Supersavers will ever look at a Star Wars movie the same!

Beware the power of these Supersavers!

7th GrAde Hammering in more Energy knowledgE

The Supersavers decided to have some energy fun of their own and test their own energy knowledge by spending a day playing different energy games. Each game incorporated energy information in an exciting and interactive way that the Supersavers really enjoyed. The Supersavers then tested their knowledge by playing Energy Jeopardy, Energy Pictionary, Energy Pursuit, Top Five and Energy Taboo.

I wonder if they know the number one energy producing source in the United States?

What would you call a power failure?....A current event!!

What is biomass!

6th grade Energy games and 7th Grade Rube Goldberg Fun

7th grade Rube Goldberg projects demonstrated at least 6 different energy transformations and a completed task at the end.

ENERGY FUN CREATING RUBE

GOLDBERG MACHINES

The 6th grade students learned all about sources and forms of energy, conservation of energy, and energy facts by playing fun Energy Carnival Games to reinforce learning about forms and sources of energy.

All this talk about wind energy really blew me away!!

Let’s try renewables for 200

Energy Fair Training Day

Our goal for training day was to prepare for the

battle at Fouse and Emerson Elementaries!

We had to decide what to teach the young

Supersavers about and how to make it fun.

To act the part, we learned how to play carnival games and how to do experiments. After practicing many times, we knew how to teach the young Supersavers about thermal energy, energy

sources, and many more energy topics!

135 Supersavers increased their energy scores from 30% to 90%

At the energy fair at Emerson Elementary School, Mrs. McSwords’ 7th period class trained the young Supersavers to conserve energy. The 7th grade Supersavers had lots of fun and the 5th grade trainees were soon on their way to becoming professional energy conservers. They learned about many different machines including a kilowatt meter and a thermal imaging camera. The young Supersavers also learned about sound waves and how those waves had to travel through a medium. At one station, the trainees measured the energy consumption of everyday household items and how many watts (energy) the different items used. The Supersavers learned that the LED light bulb was the most efficient light bulb and that they should use all LED light bulbs in their homes.

Energy Fair At Emerson

Time to SPRING into action!!

Geothermal is so HOT right now.

The 5th Graders Learned About Energy Pre Test Score- 68%

Post Test Score - 92%

Energy Trainees Have Fun Learning About Energy

Energy Fair at FouseThe 7th Grade Supersavers made their way to Fouse Elementary School to train the young Supersavers in the ways of energy-efficiency. The Supersavers got every young Supersaver trainee to engage in fun carnival games and hands-on energy activities that taught them about energy. The Supersavers learned about snap circuits, thermal imaging, sound and pitch, and energy conservation. We included them in multiple activities and answered any energy questions they asked. At one station we worked on energy transformation and the students played with solar bugs and toys that showed energy conversions.

Insulators and Conductors,

Sources and Forms of Energy

Look how much the 5th grade Supersavers learned about energy!

Watt is love? Baby don’t hertz me!
