What do we do?
Programme Overview
• STEMNET is a government initiative that creates opportunities to inspire, enthuse and excite young people about STEM
• This enables young people to develop their creativity, problem-solving and employability skills, widens their choices and will aim to support NI's future competitiveness
• W5’s role is to coordinate the STEM Ambassadors programme, ensuring local secondary schools are aware of the programme and can access STEM Ambassadors in their area
Programme Objectives
• Excite young people about STEM
• Give teachers a unique perspective on how the STEM curriculum can be applied to the world of work
• Encourage young people to consider STEM careers and qualifications
• Contribute to improved academic achievements in STEM subjects
• Develop other employability skills including confidence, team work, problem solving and creativity
Key Achievements:
• Face to Face meetings all Post Primary Schools
• Engagement events for over 50,000 young people
• 98% of Post Primary Schools have accessed STEM Ambassadors over the past 12 months
• Over 380 requests submitted by schools for support
• Over 80% of requests successfully matched with STEM Ambassador/s
• Over 1,400 STEM Ambassadors facilitated activities
