We are submitting a new sheet A903, dated 7/2/19, which fully documents the existing bell tower louvers with drawings, photographs, and dimensions. The size of the proposed new circular window openings, in the front façade of the Church, have been reduced as requested to three-foot diameter, and are shown here as such on the attached revised Sheets A901 and elevation sheet A301, dated 7/2/19. Solar panels being added to the West facing side of the Church roof and the South flat roof of the Rectory and will not be visible from the Public Way, as previously mentioned. Please refer to the Rectory Building Cross Section on sheet A221 and the new and existing views up Conarroe Street shown on details 1& 2 on sheet HP101. In addition, we are attaching a photo of the view down Conarroe Street from the top of the hill, showing that the flat roof area of the Rectory, and therefore the solar panels, will be predominantly out of sight. The height of the solar panel and supporting structure is 4” high. The new HVAC units for the Church and Rectory will be Multi-City units set behind the Church in Brewers Alley where the existing AC unit had been. Incoming electric service will be from Conarroe Street in the original locations and the electric meters will be in the basement levels of both buildings. No mechanical equipment will be visible from the Public way. See the attached site plan G004 dated 7/2/19. The original tall, side stained-glass lancet windows on the Church will be replaced with custom operable clad wood windows with painted aluminum trim, based on the Pella Architectural Reserve Series, that meet the IBC 2018 Energy Code. The glass will be clear with a neutral colored glass spandrel unit at the new floor line to be selected from the standard line of available glass spandrel colors by JEB or an approved equivalent. (See attached ENVIROSPAN color chart.) Please let us know if you need any additional document or have any questions. Philadelphia Historic Commission:

CaVA Architects is requesting FINAL APPROVAL for the proposed renovations to St. Mary-of-the-Assumption Church and Rectory property, located at 176 Conarroe Street in Manayunk, into residential dwelling units. As recommended by the Architectural Committee Review on June 25, 2019 we are submitting the attached revisions and supplemental information: • The Church Bell Tower wooden louvers, which are schedule to be replaced with replica prefinished aluminum clad

louvers to replicate the existing louvers in detail, size and profiles, have now been documented. We are submitting a new sheet A903, dated 7/2/19, which fully documents the existing bell tower louvers with drawings, photographs, and dimensions.

• The size of the proposed new circular window openings, in the front façade of the Church, have been reduced as requested to three-foot diameter, and are shown here as such on the attached revised Sheets A901 and elevation sheet A301, dated 7/2/19.

• Solar panels being added to the West facing side of the Church roof and the South flat roof of the Rectory and will not be visible from the Public Way, as previously mentioned.

• The new HVAC units for the Church and Rectory will be Multi-City units set behind the Church in Brewers Alley where the existing AC unit had been. Incoming electric service will be from Conarroe Street in the original locations and the electric meters will be in the basement levels of both buildings. No mechanical equipment will be visible from the Public way. See the attached site plan G004 dated 7/2/19.

• The original tall, side stained-glass lancet windows on the Church will be replaced with custom operable clad wood windows with painted aluminum trim, based on the Pella Architectural Reserve Series, that meet the IBC 2018 Energy Code. The glass will be clear with a neutral colored glass spandrel unit at the new floor line to be selected from the standard line of available glass spandrel colors by JEB or an approved equivalent. (See attached ENVIROSPAN color chart.)

COLOR SELECTIONENVIROSPANTM can be specified in virtually any color. JEB offers five (5) standard pre-formulated colors. Custom formulated colors are available to meet your specific color design requirements.

When making color selections keep the following in mind:

• Spandrel glass is for non-vision areas only.

• Frit color should be viewed through the glass substrate.

• Frit color will appear different when viewed through different glass make-ups due to shading character- istics of glass coatings, glass substrate and interlayer.

• Frit color will vary depending on the type of viewing light.

• Actual production line samples are recommended for final color approval.

• Frit color chips shown are as close as possible to actual colors.

• Full scale/size mock-ups are recommended.

Sizes• Minimum size manufactured is 12” X 12”

• Maximum size is 84” X 130”

ShapesSee on-line pattern cutting chart under Float Glass Distribution/Fabrication.

EdgeworkStandard edgework is seamed or swiped with a 120 grit belt. Monolithic EnvirospanTM must be used in a four-sided captured glazing system. Monolithic EnvirospanTM cannot be used in butt, structural or exposed edge glazing applications, due to 1/8" cutback on the frit occuring during processing.

Standard Color Options

Identification Color

#101 Black

#106 White

#109A Warm Grey

#109B Subdued Grey

#109C Medium Grey

Five standard colors available:

The Spandrel ProcessLead-free colored ceramic frit is applied with a roller coater and fire-fused at 1150°F to the interior surface of the substrate glass (second surface) to create an environmentally safe EnvirospanTM opaque panel. Since the ceramic frit is lead-free, there are no disposal concerns with EnvirospanTM panels.

Heat treating of spandrel glass, whether it is monolithicsingle glazed or a component lite in an insulating glassunit, is required to permanently fuse the ceramic fritand make the glass more resistant to heat build-up andpotential thermal stress breakage. The heat treatingprocess produces either heat strengthened or fully tem-pered glass. Fully tempered glass is required for safetyglazing applications. Fully tempered glass is more resis-tant to excessive heat build-up. However, in the eventof breakage, due to a function of mechanical or thermalconditions, the break pattern of tempered glass producessmall particles. If breakage should occur with heat-strengthened glass, the break pattern produces largepieces of glass, which tend to stay in the framing system. Both options should be reviewed for risk of added heatbuild-up, particularly in a spandrel IG unit, with the com-bination of coated glasses, field applied insulation behindthe spandrel unit, unknown shading conditions andorientation of the building.

Today’s glazing conditions often combine spandreland a mate lite of high performance coated Low-Eglass in an overall IG Unit with the addition ofinsulation materials behind the unit.

.The outboard lite of coated/low-e glass, used in a non-safety glazing area, should be heat strengthened toaccommodate the required break pattern and to prevent fallout.

Product ApplicationsEnvirospanTM lead-free spandrel is used in NON-VISION AREAS ONLY. It should not be used in settings wherethe #2 surface of the glass can be viewed from bothsides, such as partitions, transoms and interior walls. It can also be used as the inboard lite of aninsulating glass unit.* Factory applied insulating backing for spandrel may be available on a project basis. Please consult J.E. Berkowitz Customer Service for more information.

Lead-Free Ceramic Frit Spandrel

Custom colors and tinted or low iron substrates are avail-able upon request. 1/4” pyrolytic reflec-tive glass is available in grey, green, bronze or blue with standard black frit on the #2 surface.

WarrantyStandard warranty is five years from date of manufac-ture against peeling, cracking or deterioration of the coating under normal conditions.

CertificationFloat glass used in EnvirospanTM lead-free ceramic frit spandrel complies with the quality requirementsof ASTMC1036, Standard Specification for Float Glass. Heat treated EnvirospanTM glass complies with ASTMC1048. Glass-Kind HS, Kind FT Coated and Uncoated Glass. Tempered EnvirospanTM is a safety glazing product meeting the performance requirements of Consumer Product Safety Commission Standard 16 CFR 1201, as well as ANSI Z97.1. Since the ceramic frit does not contain lead, there are no special disposal requirements.
