Ask the Executive Coach...byDaniel P. Chiodo, CMEC | Impact Training & Development

This is the second in a two-part series addressing a very important question.

    Q:

The good news is I got a job promotion. The bad news is I have to do my old job AND this new one.

How can I possibly do that?

A:The first part of this series gave you seven items to consider when two jobs are rolled into one. Today we

will give you some final tips that may help you in your newly reconstructed job.1. How can you look at rolling two jobs into one positively? Consider this: Remember how excited

you are when you see a store you shop go through a renovation? New pieces of technology areadded, fresh paint is applied and many items are now in new places. The store management has analyzed everything andmade changes that will make the experience of shopping in that store more effective.

Look at your newly-reconstructed job the same way. Think about the chance you have of doing things in a new order. Addyour special touches to whatever you do.

    2. Envision how great it will be. Dont think of the drawbacks. If you focus on the good things that can happen, you will dowell.

    3. If you do run into a challenge, view it as an opportunity. Tell yourself you can handle it. You will be very proud of what thenew you can do.

    4. Remember to check your focus on a regular basis so that you are not doing your job the old way. This leads to frustrationand you will begin to take longer to do things.

    5. Let your managers know that you can handle the situation and ask them for feedback on your performance doing things thenew way.

    6. If you are swamped or run into serious trouble, let your managers know that, too. There may be a way to hand some tasks

    over to another person.

Good luck in your new job. You may grow to enjoy it and wonder how you did it the old way!
