Boeing says it needs to cut 225 jobs in Wichita. The jobs are at the company's Defense, Space
& Securitys Maintenance, Modifications and Upgrades (MM&U) facility. The company says it
has to reduce its workforce because some Wichita programs are coming to an end and otheradjustments in aircraft maintenance cycles - meaning there just isn't as much work as there
used to be. The cuts will take place through the rest of the year through layoffs, attrition and
placements elsewhere within the company. Sixty employees got their notice on June 17.

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory plans to cut its workforce by 100 employees or
about 5%. About 1,760 of the lab's 1,900 employees are eligible for a new severance pay
package aimed at getting 100 workers to leave their jobs willingly, but involuntary layoffs will
be needed if that goal is not met, lab director Pier Oddone said at a meeting with employees.
Fermilab is owned by the Department of Energy and run by a consortium of universities
including the University of Chicago. Chicago Business
Lockheed Martin Corp. said that it will lay off up to 95 employees in Greenbelt when a
government contract expires in September. The employees affected are working on a multi-
year contract with the National Archives and Records Administration to build a system for the
agency's electronic records archive, a project now coming to an end. Lockheed said the
layoffs, which could start in August and will finish by September 30, will likely end up being
less than the 95 total because it is working to place employees in other company jobs.
