Dear Parents and Carers, As we reach the end of another academic year we are delighted to share all the trips and events that have taken place over the past few weeks. We also said our fond farewells to the majority of Year 6 children last week, who have now moved on to pastures new. We have already received positive feedback from the secondary schools and know that they will continue to make us proud, flying the Burton End flag. This week has seen the children transitioning to their new classes during the afternoon sessions , giving us all an opportunity to get to know each other and to plan for the year ahead. It has been an absolute delight to watch the new class members bonding with each other as well as with their teachers. Although we are in our final days, the atmosphere has been calm and purposeful and we are looking forward to September with excitement and a strong sense of great things being ahead . Our new children, who are due to start Reception in September, have been coming in for stay and play sessions with their families, giving us all an opportunity to get to know each other. Like us, they are excited to see a revamp in the classrooms in September. Watch this space! One thing that has become apparent this week, across the school, is the on going problem of limited space for coats and book bags. It seems like rucksacks are growing in size and have the capacity to carry enough equipment to aid a climb to the top of Everest! With this in mind, we ask that all children in Reception and Years 1-3 bring in book bags only. We appreciate that children like to express their individuality as they got older , therefore children in Year’s 4-6 may prefer a rucksack, but ask they are of a modest size. This will help us keep classrooms tidy and ensure swift exits at the end of the day. With individuality in mind, our Key Stage 2 children attended carnival themed dance classes on Monday, showing us they have rhythm, musicality and great confidence when performing. We were delighted to welcome Leon, a highly experienced dance teacher, who came all the way from Camden in London to work with our children. This is an area of the curriculum we will be developing further next year, as we create a mini dance studio in our lower hall. What with this, a new library, new staff room and refurbished toilets, we will have to invite you in for guided tours and a grand opening in the Autumn Term. Finally, I would once again like to thank you for your ongoing support in helping make Burton End a very special place to learn and teach. Together, we have achieved so much over the past twelve months and at the end of a very busy year, please take time to pause and reflect on our children’s considerable achievements. I would like to thank you for your positive feedback on your children’s reports and for taking the time to acknowledge the hard work of all the teachers and support staff. Together we can make a difference and give our children the opportunities they truly deserve. Have a wonderful summer and see you all in September. Mrs Sheargold P.s. Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of another academic year we are delighted to share all the trips and events that have taken

place over the past few weeks. We also said our fond farewells to the majority of Year 6 children last week, who

have now moved on to pastures new. We have already received positive feedback from the secondary schools

and know that they will continue to make us proud, flying the Burton End flag.

This week has seen the children transitioning to their new classes during the afternoon sessions , giving us

all an opportunity to get to know each other and to plan for the year ahead. It has been an absolute delight to

watch the new class members bonding with each other as well as with their teachers. Although we are in our

final days, the atmosphere has been calm and purposeful and we are looking forward to September with

excitement and a strong sense of great things being ahead .

Our new children, who are due to start Reception in September, have been coming in for stay and play

sessions with their families, giving us all an opportunity to get to know each other. Like us, they are excited to

see a revamp in the classrooms in September. Watch this space!

One thing that has become apparent this week, across the school, is the on going problem of limited space for

coats and book bags. It seems like rucksacks are growing in size and have the capacity to carry enough

equipment to aid a climb to the top of Everest! With this in mind, we ask that all children in Reception and

Years 1-3 bring in book bags only. We appreciate that children like to express their individuality as they got

older , therefore children in Year’s 4-6 may prefer a rucksack, but ask they are of a modest size. This will help

us keep classrooms tidy and ensure swift exits at the end of the day.

With individuality in mind, our Key Stage 2 children attended carnival themed dance classes on Monday,

showing us they have rhythm, musicality and great confidence when performing. We were delighted to

welcome Leon, a highly experienced dance teacher, who came all the way from Camden in London to work with

our children. This is an area of the curriculum we will be developing further next year, as we create a mini

dance studio in our lower hall. What with this, a new library, new staff room and refurbished toilets, we will

have to invite you in for guided tours and a grand opening in the Autumn Term.

Finally, I would once again like to thank you for your ongoing support in helping make Burton End a very

special place to learn and teach. Together, we have achieved so much over the past twelve months and at the end

of a very busy year, please take time to pause and reflect on our children’s considerable achievements. I would

like to thank you for your positive feedback on your children’s reports and for taking the time to acknowledge

the hard work of all the teachers and support staff. Together we can make a difference and give our children

the opportunities they truly deserve.

Have a wonderful summer and see you all in September.

What’s been happening at Burton End …….

Walton -on –the– Naze On Wednesday 26th June Year 2 visited Walton on the Naze for the day as part of their topic; Beside the Seaside. As well as looking at the different geographic features of the town, the children played in the sea and on the beach and carried out science experiments. A great day was had by all with several children falling a sleep on the way home!

Year 1 had a wonderful trip to Colchester Zoo. We were really lucky to see most of the animals as we walked around, except the Sun bears as they were hiding. Lots of the children were brave enough to feed one of the elephants, which caused lots of giggles when they saw how the elephant took the food. We spotted how most of the animals camouflaged in their environments and linked lots of what we had been learning about in class! The children were exceptionally behaved and a real credit to Burton End.

This term our nursery children enjoyed a Teddy Bear’s picnic! Including a special guest- Mr Smith from the Co-op, who kindly donated Chocolate brownies for all the children to enjoy! The children had a brilliant time playing golf, chasing bubbles and exploring the Gym Trail .

Year 3 had a great day at Woburn Safari Park. We started off on the Foot Safari which got us up close and personal with lots of animals such as Penguins, Lemurs, Otters, Capybara's and Wallabies. We then went to watch a live Sea lion show—it was amazing to see a wild animal do so many tricks. Finally we set off on the Road Safari with our personal tour guide, we loved seeing all the animals so close to the coach and to learn new facts about them on our way round, especially when a ginormous Giraffe crossed the road right in front of us, we couldn't believe our eyes!

The Summer Term has brought many sporting opportunities for our children. We began by taking a group of Year 5 and 6 children to Castle Manor as they took part in a Quad Kids event. This event was broken in to four categories: vortex throw, long jump, 75m sprint and 600m run. We are extremely proud of how all of our children performed and how they supported each other through the events. It was refreshing to see many of our children run alongside others in the team for the long distance run to help and encourage them to finish. The children’s behaviour was exemplary and was commented on positively by the event organisers. Unfortunately, the rounders and football events had to be cancelled this term and we were unable to secure a rearranged date with enough schools for the children to participate.

On Friday 5th July a Year 2 Enrichment day was held at Burton End for pupil's within the Trust. Four pupils were chosen from each school with Layla, Theo, Willow, and Marlon representing Burton End. We were joined by 9 other schools giving pupils the opportunity to meet and make new friends. With glorious sunshine and a theme of Wimbledon, the day started with pupils playing tennis and developing their batting skills. After this the pupils took part in a range of Maths activities all themed around Wimbledon. These included, how many rectangles are on a tennis court, dice tennis and using money to buy souvenirs. After a delicious BBQ, pupils took part in a variety of sports activities planned and delivered by our Fantastic Year 6 Sports Leaders: Maddison, Amelia, Harry, Jamie and Jake. The day ended with ice poles and medals and lots of very happy children!

We were extremely pleased to see so many parents, carers and relatives turn up to support the children in our three sports days. Everybody helped to create a really positive atmosphere in which the children could compete with positivity, enjoyment and high spirits. The children enjoyed a range of activities, including a specialist session designed and run by Mr White, who we were pleased could join us for the event this year. Burton End would also like to say a special thank you to the Castle Manor sports leaders who supported our KS2 event as they contributed heavily towards its success.

F.O.B.E.S are the Parent Staff Association (PSA) for Burton End Primary Academy.

We run several events throughout the year for our pupils which include discos, (in October &

April/May) Christmas Fete & our Summer Fete. We are always looking for volunteers to help

at our events.

In order to make our events bigger, better and make more money for the school each year, we

require lots of help. Therefore, we would ask parents for a year-long commitment but this

does not mean that you would need to attend every event. The more support we get from

parents and staff, means the better our events can be.

If you are interested in helping please complete your email address below and we will contact

you.

Thank you. We really appreciate your support!
