Congratulations Deacon David Schaefer!
Deacon David Schaefer was born in Sikeston, Mo., but his family moved to St. Louis when he was very young. Deacon David attended Epiph-any Grade and Southwest High schools. He received degrees from St. Louis Community College and Fontbonne University. Deacon David married
his wife, Patty, at St. Gabriel the Archan-gel Parish. They have two sons, Joe and Tom. Deacon David recently retired from the Na-tional Geospatial Intel-ligence Agency, after working there for 33 years.
The Schaefer’s moved
to Assumption in 1990. Joe and Tom attended Assumption
Parish Grade School. Deacon David has had leadership roles at Assumption in our Boy Scout Troop and taught 7th and 8th grade PSR. Patty is involved in our ACTS Retreat program. Deacon David annually helps the Archdiocese Youth Ministry Office with the audio-visual components of Generation Life and the Steubenville Youth Conferences.
Deacon David entered the Permanent Deaconate Program in 2013 and was ordained Saturday, June 2 at the Cathedral Basilica. He assisted at a Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday. Deacon David will be assigned to Assumption and will work part-time helping the priests as a pastoral minister.
Congratulations, Deacon David! We promise to pray for you in your new ministry at Assumption!
Sunday Mass Schedule
In order to provide busy parishioners and other Catholics in the area the opportunity to make Sunday Mass their priority, beginning July 1, Assumption-Mattese Parish will add a 6 p.m. Sunday Evening Mass. The morning schedule will remain the same.
Peter Buncher will provide music. We will need parishion-ers to serve as liturgical ministers. Current ministers are welcome to switch their preference to the Sunday evening Mass, however, we will need new volunteers to cover the liturgical needs. We will provide training for new liturgical ministers. Please call the Parish Office if you can help.
Please spread the word!
God bless, Fr. Keller

Mass Intentions † In Our Prayyers Weeklyy Readinggsss
Catholics should give their family instructions that funeral arrangements reflect our Faith.
Catholic funerals are a sign of hope at a time of sadness and grief. A Catholic may donate their body to science, or choose to be cremated (provided that the cremains are buried). Minimally, Holy Mass should be celebrated for the repose of a loved one’s soul.
Grief support for spouses: held third Sunday of each month 10:15 a.m. in the Rectory lower level.
Pastoral Care of the Sick or Dying
When a loved one is ill, it is a good idea to call a priest so that he can hear the
confession (if conscious) and confer the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
The priest can administer the Apostolic Blessing before death.
Saint Landericus Feast Day—June 10
As Bishop of Paris, from 650-661, Saint Landericus was a dedicated servant of God who, like his Lord Jesus Christ, had great love for the poor. When proceeds from the sale of all his possessions did not relieve the hungry during a famine, the Saint sold some of the church vessels and furniture. Saint Landericus knew that the sick poor of his diocese were not really cared for by the custom of that time, which was to house them in little hostels dependent on the casual alms of charitable persons. This led the Saint to build the city’s first real hospital, dedi-cated to St. Christopher. This building became the famous Hotel-Dieu. Always wanting to provide spiritual help for his people, Saint Landericus welcomed the Benedictines into his diocese and encouraged them to set up the Abbey of Denis. Saint Landericus died around 661. (catholic.org)

Congratulations to our 2018 PreK Graduates! Now, these fine young children will move on to kindergarten. Some of these students may stay best friends for years to come. Others may just fulfill their career choice (see below). However, those who are parents simply want to hold on to these special educational moments, knowing the next big step is right around the corner.
The graduates were asked what careers they would choose when they become adults.

Christian marriage and family life is a source of grace and many blessings.
The priests at Assumption are happy to sit down with couples to discuss how to grow together in holiness.
The priests prepare couples for marriage, provide counseling, initiate an annulment, or con-validate a civil marriage.
Holy Matrimony and Family Life Call a priest for preparation for Holy Matrimony, con-validation of a civil marriage, initiation of an annulment, or counseling for marital difficulties.

The vegetables in the S.T.R.E.A.M. Care for Creation Classroom’s raised garden beds are thriving! This is attributed to the hard work by students this past school year and because of the instruction of our Master Gardener and Science teacher, Mr. Bryan Jones.
Now that our school year has ended, the care of the gardens will continue under the watchful eye of Mr. Jones. In fact, Jones has already transplanted two tomato plants (one beefsteak and one cherry), a pepper plant, and an eggplant. He also planted parsley, basil and some pumpkin seeds.
Jones has volunteered to help Father Keller take care of the hens during the summer. Jones has plans to tend to the gardens each Wednesday and clean the coop.
We are thankful to Mr. Jones for all that he does for Assumption Parish School!
If you are visiting the outdoor classroom on a Wednesday, be sure to say hello!

Mass may be offered for a special intention or on behalf of another person, living or deceased.
It is a highly recommended spiritual practice to have Mass offered on the anniversary of a loved one’s death, on their birthday or another important date.
The parish may accept one intention per Mass. Mass intentions may be accepted up to one year in advance.
If a specific date is not available, a nearby day should be considered.
Offe Holy Mass fo ved One
To arrange to have a Mass offered for someone, please visit or call the Parish Office. Any sacrificial gift is welcome, but the suggested Mass offering in the Archdiocese of St. Louis is $5.
