CALENDAR OF EVENTSSALAM ! SHALOM ! PAX ! PEACE ! This weekend we celebrate the wonderful FEAST of the SACRED HEART. With this feast we come to the end of the ‘holiday’ season and fully enter into the regular or ORDINARY, time. It is fitting that the many holidays, going back to

Thanksgiving, are summarized by this one. What all the others add up to is: GOD LOVES YOU ! That is what we celebrate every time we get together. That summarizes the Bible. GOD LOVES YOU ! Next week we will celebrate Father’s Day. It is a day we recall and honor our fathers and fatherfigures. Whatever your theological leanings, we can celebrate that it is an expression of thanks for GOD’S LOVE uniquely experienced in these persons, as was Mother’s Day. And, as both Mother’s and Father’s Day do, we are challenged to think, speak and act in reflection of Our Father. As we get into the Summer season, when the long days give us time to reflect a bit, let us try to thank God for such ‘witnesses’, and ask God’s help to be LOVING, generous, joyful and forgiving ourselves.

As we enter into the Summer season, let me take this opportunity to THANK your and my STAFF: Deacon Paul Lippard, Ed Turner, Peter Cartwright, Yvette Corey, Sandy Mulcahy and Steve Chandler, as well as our outside lawn and walks man James Fahlman. THANK YOU as well to our weekend prayer leader, Fr. John. Thank You each and all for having brought me and the parish through this adventurous year. Thank You for your prayers and leadership. Thank You for your friendship and professionalism. You have empowered and guided our many wonderful volunteers. You have helped to make Resurrection Parish a true oasis in a world of doubts and fears and change. THANK YOU ! Remember and beware : MENE, TEKEL, PERES ( Dan. 5:2328; cf. also I Sam 8: 1022; II Chr.7:14 and 36:1423; and Jn. 3:1421). VAYA CON DIOS ! GO WITH GOD ! ADIOS !

Today’s Scripture passages speak of darkness in the world. In the Book of Genesis, Adam and Eve fall from grace. The devilserpent tricks them into partaking

of the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Life. Their fall is the basis for Catholic teaching on original sin, which stains all of us at birth. In St. Mark’s Gospel, the evangelist retells the reaction of the scribes (lawyers, in Jesus’ day) when they realize that Christ is driving out demons. They boldly state, He is possessed by Beelzebul. Jesus wisely refutes their claim a divided kingdom cannot last. As faithful stewards, we are aware of the darkness of evil in the world that leads to temptation, yet this evil does not master us. Sin and death result from Adam and Eve’s fall. Still, the Good News of Jesus encourages us: He humbled Himself to live among us; He died for our sins on Good Friday; He rose from the dead on Easter Sunday; He ascended to heaven and sends the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. In other words, evil, sin, and death do not triumph. We have the victory in Christ! To strengthen us to “fight the good fight,” participate regularly in the sacrament of Reconciliation and partake of Holy Communion at Sunday Mass.

HOW MANY DETROIT TIGERS DO YOU KNOW?I think we all know Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez, but you probably need a scorecard this year to figure out who the rest of the players are. Well we are about to resolve this problem by increasing your knowledge of “Who’s Who” on our beloved Detroit Tiger team because we have scheduled a night at the ballpark on Friday, July 27th to watch this group of highly energetic young men take on the Cleveland Indians in what could be a battle for first place! Game time is 7:10 pm and we will depart around 6:00 pm from Resurrection Parish parking lot and car pool down to Comerica Park. Tickets are $32 each and, as usual, we have really great seats. We promise a fun packed evening and this year we will end the festivities with fireworks (not necessarily from Rich and Bev) but compliments of the Detroit Tigers. So, to reserve your spot in what will be referred to for many years as a night to remember, either call Rich at (734) 4530987, shoot him an email at [email protected], or just tell him before or after Mass that you want to be part of the incrowd and let him know how many tickets you would like. Need to respond NLT Monday, June 25th otherwise you will be scratched from our lineup card!

Pilgrimage to Vietnam (May 1528, 2019) with Fr. John Vandenakker of the Companions of the Cross. Discover the natural beauty, culture, and faith of this exotic land as we celebrate her many Catholic saints, martyrs, and shrines. Thank You to the VBS Stage Building Crew

15 amazing people gave up their Saturday to build a beautiful new stage for our Vacation Bible School program. Renting a stage had become cost prohibitive and Resurrection’s new addition offered a great place to store our own stage. Ed Sponseller was the master engineer and we had a team of awesome workers: Bob Basanese, Mark Bourcier, Stein Brunvand, Pat Hannon, Tim Hogan, David Lehmkuhl, Marlowe Ma, Len Pomo, Rick Sowinski, Brian Sullivan, Amy Sponseller, Brian Temple, Mike Weibel, and John Zylka. It was truly the Body of Christ at work. Thanks for blessing VBS!
