PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Cheryl Storer, President

Republicans made it through the primary election season, with somesuccesses and a few disappointments. Good luck to all the Republicans whohad a strong showing in the top two contests. Today it is refreshing to pick upthe newspaper and watch the news without all the political ads. We can relax fora day or two and then we need to get back to the business of helping Republicansget elected.

There will be some critical races in the November elections. Politicalexperts note that Democrats do not turn out for primary elections, but increasetheir efforts for the November contests. Please join me in working for

Congressman David Valadao, Congressional District 16 candidate Johnny Tacherra, and State SenatorAndy Vidak, along with Ron Nehring, candidate for Lieutenant Governor, and Mayor AshleySwearengin, candidate for State Controller. Hopefully, Buddy Mendes for Fresno County Board ofSupervisor 4 will get more than per cent of the vote once all the ballots are counted, making a run-offin November unnecessary for that seat.

A BIG THANK YOU to the ladies that worked on campaigns. Martha Kistler, Maggie Canaba, UnaFreitas, Sue Deming, Roberta Genini, Marian Mosley, Yvonne Eytchison and Susan Abbott. If youworked on phone calling or walking precincts, please let me know. We are trying to gather the numberof hours that our members worked to report to the National Federation of Republican Women. TheseCampaign hours help us quantify the number of volunteer hours that are the foundation of ourgrassroots effort.

I hope you will join us for the June 26 luncheon program presented by KMJ’s Paul Loeffler on the“Honor Flight”. If you know a veteran who would like to hear the speakers and see the video pleasebring them along. My father is 92 years old and one of the remaining hero’s from 70 years ago. Hewas a submarine radio operator and a very proud Navy man. He lives in Idaho or I would bring himalong.

See you on June 26!

SHINING THE SPOTLIGHT onDave BratBy Roberta Genini, Editor

Virginian Dave Brat reflected on his stunning andunexpected win over longtime incumbent and House Majority

Leader Eric Cantor: “It’s a miracle….I’m a believer, so I’m humbledthat God gave us this win….God acts through people. And God acted throughthe people.” (Comment to Fox News, quoted on LifeSiteNews.com)

Outspent 22 to 1, Dave Brat was indeed, as a number of commentatorshave observed, a little David slaying the establishment giant, rubbing the victoryin with a double digit lead.

A point not yet picked up on in the mainstream media is Dave Brat’sdeep Christian faith. “ In addition to his Ph.D. in economics from American University, he holds a Masters inDivinity from Princeton Theological Seminary.” While he credits his “Calvinist tendencies” for much of hiseconomic and political outlook, his wife is Roman Catholic and the family primarily attends her church. Hebelieves that the problems society faces today are solvable by spreading Christian morality.(LifeSiteNews.com)

He challenges Christians to be forthright in their participation in the public sphere, precisely tospread Christian morality. An example, cited in an Investors Business Daily June 17editorial, of his chargingfearlessly against the tide of public opinion, is his insistence that Washington caused the recession whenFannie Mae and Freddie Mac “made two-thirds of all subprime mortgages….That entity caused the housingcollapse. So we need to take free markets seriously.”

IBD notes: “With little resistance from Republicans, Democrats and their media toadies have beenable to hijack the crisis narrative and demonize private banks. The Wall Street bashing helped the Obamaadministration justify financial ‘reform’ and centralize credit in the hands of the state.” Dave Brat has calmlytold the truth about the housing collapse, and has done so in public and for years, not in the least afraid tobe a Tea Party gadfly.

Nor is he afraid of the so-called social issues. Dave Brat is openly pro-life. While many want toavoid the issue of immigration, he is untiring in his reasoned opposition to amnesty.

Dave Brat often sums up his political stance by enunciating the Virginia Republican Creed:

“We Believe…

That the free enterprise system is the most productive supplier of human needs and economicjustice

That all individuals are entitled to equal rights, justice, and opportunities and should assume theirresponsibilities as citizens in a free society

That fiscal responsibility and budgetary restraints must be exercised at all levels of government

That the Federal Government must preserve individual liberty by observing constitutional limitations

That peace is best preserved through a strong national defense

That faith in God, as recognized by our Founding Fathers, is essential to the moral fibre of theNation”

NO on SB 53!The Senate Democrats are still trying to shove gun controldown our throats! SB 53 (DeLeon, D) would requireCalifornians to purchase permits before buying ammunitionfor their firearms. This is a huge infringement on our SecondAmendment rights. The Democrats are trying to chip away atour right to own firearms, one bill at a time. We must cometogether a put a stop to this! SB 53 is being heard for its thirdreading in the Senate. If passed, it will go to Governor Brown.

Call your Senator NOWand tell them to VOTE NO on SB 53!

DO YOU KNOW?Education Committee

. . . that the FCCRWF Read to Know Book Club will continue to meet throughthe summer months? Norma Burdick led the June discussion of I AmMalala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and was Shot by the Talibanby Malala Yousafzai and Christina Lamb. It proved to be an eye-openerconcerning the obstacles that exist to the education of women in otherparts of the world. We will meet again on Thursday, July 10, to share ourthoughts on Benjamin Franklin’s Autobiography. All women are invited. Call Adair Murphy at 439-7094 for details.

. . . that Rush Limbaugh, author of the FCCRWF Book Club’s selection forMay, Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims: Time Travel Adventures withExceptional Americans, was named Children’s Choice Book Awards“Author of the Year”? To receive this award an author must have soldthe most copies of a children’s book during the year. Congratulations,Rush, for providing entertaining education to “young skulls full of mush,” to quote your customaryway of referring to children.

Rush’s two Rush Revere adventures are his first foray into children’s literature.

No doubt about these FCCRWFmembers’ choice for Lieutenant

Governor. At extreme left, NynaArmstrong, Nehring for Lt.

Governor. Susan Abbott(middle) is Fresno County Chair

for Nehring.

A Time to Reflect on Our FlagBy Roberta Genini, Editor

In our family, June 14, Flag Day, is the day either to replace the flag that hasflown in front of our house for the past year, or, more often, to start thinkingabout that task, making sure our Nation’s symbol is replaced by IndependenceDay. While our home flag is far from ragged after a year of being out in allbut inclement weather (scorching

heat does not count as inclement among Fresnans), it hasfaded somewhat during that time.

This year on Flag Day I was a bit saddened to notice thatvery few homes on my errands’ path were flying Old Glory, hardly more than on any other day. But love for Americashould burn all the brighter when times get darker, asindeed they are doing now. We are suffering a bafflinglack of leadership in the face of a collapsing Iraq and thechaos on our southern border, a situation engendered bythe Dream Act and its logical consequences. The collapse in Iraq is a consequence of having aCommander in Chief who on almost every occasion refuses to deal with protecting our nationalinterests while assuring us that he has a team working around the clock on getting to the bottom of it,whichever crisis of the moment “it” is.

I invite FCCRWF members to view a lovely online “History of the U.S. Flag” presented by the NationalConstitution Center. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UONq4YCF4R4
