Relay for Life – San
Clemente Join the
SCPC Steppin’ Forward
team at the San Clemente
High School July 25-26,
2015. At this wonderful
event, participants can take
a turn walking around the
football field for one hour,
so that a vigil of hope and support is kept going for a full 24 hours! The
day begins with a survivors' lap, and there is a very moving luminaria
candlelight vigil for one hour in the evening. There are speakers, local
singers and musicians, hourly activities, and lots of great fellowship!
Please contact Katie Robinson (on the patio, by phone at 949-361-
0168, or at [email protected]) to sign up for any hour you want
to come. Let's see if we can keep our relay team going all day!
On Sunday, June
14, we will bless
the High School
Seniors as they
move forward in
their lives. Family members are invited to join us in the Student
Center at 10:00am and then at the 10:45am service.
What SCPC Means to Me by Justin Valla
I have been attending SCPC for 6 years. I first came to church because they gave me a
free bus pass and I thought that was a very kind thing to do. I did not grow up going to
church and this was a new experience for me but I was opened mined to learning about
church and God and I liked the preaching style because it was like a bible study and I
could relate to it.
Going to church gives me a purpose. It keeps me healthy in mind and body and I feel
that God loves me. At church I feel safe and at peace. I feel like the people at church
are very welcoming and accepting of me. I have many good friends who sit with me at
the service and I never feel alone. In the past I attended Vespers and Tod’s bible study
too.
Now I am involved in some activities at church. I collect offering every Sunday at both services. I help the Building and Grounds team with paint-
ing and other projects around the church. I also helped the Logistics team move equipment for the Marine Baby Shower.
Most of all I really enjoy the fellowship of the people. I especially just like having coffee and talking to my friends on the patio. And I also have a
few special friends and mentors who have helped me and from whom I have learned many new things. Recently, I celebrated my 28th birthday
with some of my good friends.
Students participate in the 3rd Justice Films
On Wed, May 27th, SCPC Middle School students participated in the
3rd Justice Films Awards Night held in SCPC's Fellowship Hall. The
Middle School small groups composed short films highlighting the
injustice of human trafficking and then showed what God's people
are doing about it. Students and their parents dressed up for the
night where the 7th/8th boys small group, led by Ian Pruitt and Tho-
mas Dollar, took home first prize. Stay tuned for those films, to be
posted on scpres.org.
Look below to see what is happening this Sunday!

SERVE LOCALLY • IMPACT GLOBALLY • SATURDAY • JUNE 13
The Community Resource Center of San Clemente (CRCSC) is partnering with the Rotary Club of San Clemente and the
Boys and Girls Club of the South Coast Area to host a Meal Packing event to benefit Kids Around the World on Saturday,
June 13, from 10am - 12noon in the SCPC Cellar/basement.
Every minute 12 children die from starvation. You are invited to help
change this reality for kids all around the world. We need volunteers to
help package over twelve thousand meals for children in Liberia.
Volunteers will work in stations to package meals in an “assembly line”
fashion for the benefit of those in need. Participation is open to people of all ages and is a fun and
easy way to give back, meet new friends, serve as a family and literally save lives in the process.
To serve or learn more, contact Suzanne Ansari at 949.228.5309 or email [email protected].
SERVING AT CAMPO ESPERANZA by Noemy Bonilla
Campo Esperanza has been an incredible journey the Lord has put in my path. After
serving at Rancho Sordo Mudo, I was excited to see what God had in store. After being
introduced to this beautiful place I felt my heart touched by God to serve here too.
I've been going to Campo Esperanza for about three months now and each time I go I
get to connect with the kids. Through Bible story time or even giving out a pair of
shoes, God has put his love in me to give to them. My family comes from a
background of working in the fields back in Guanajuato, Mexico, just like the
families at Campo Esperanza. Being able to connect with them and getting to know their culture really
motives me to submerge as much as I can to become one with them. Coming home makes me reflect on
how I have a bed, four walls, food, and
water and just 3 hours south of here there
is a community that doesn't even have a
roof over their heads and those plastic,
cardboard, and rusty walls that surround them. Being able to go and give a smile
to these kids warms my heart and gives me encouragement to keep serving the
Lord and those beautiful people.
You too can participate in serving the children of migrant
farmers just outside Ensenada. This Friday night, June 12, a
team will be going down for a one-day trip. Register at
https://scpres.ccbchurch.com/form_response.php?id=575.

INSIDE OUTSIDE FAIR PHOTOS HERE
The Inside Outside Ministry Fair
was a wonderful celebration of
some of the ways God is using
our church to care for each other
and reach out to those in need around us. About 60 of our members
represented 37 ministries and shared stories about how God has
been at work in and through them. If you missed it last Sunday, you
can see more pictures below and learn a little bit about each ministry
on the website at www.scpres.org/#/missions/insideoutside-fair.
SAFE MOTHERHOOD AT NKHOMA HOSPITAL by Dr. Reynier TerHaar
In the past five years Nkhoma Hospital
has initiated a Safe Motherhood
Program which encourages mothers
(now more than 96% of the catchment
area) to deliver in a health facility. A
referral system is in place at health
centers to refer high risk deliveries to
the hospital via ambulance. The
maternal death rate at Nkhoma
Hospital has dropped from 1 in 66 live
births in 2008 to 1 in 588 live births in
2014.
Praise the Lord with our sisters and
brothers serving at the Nkhoma
Hospital. Pray for them as they care for
the needs of our friends in the Nkhoma and Chilenje Valley.
EARLY PLANNING — Have you ever sensed God’s call to participate
in one of our Y-Malawi trips? We are beginning to think about a trip
for 2016. If you would like to join us in praying about this opportu-
nity to serve, please contact Kim Nicolai at [email protected].

Ministry Support update Spring of 2015 has been chal-
lenging for our church. Ministry Support has carefully managed a tight
budget, made significant cuts to expenditures and are approaching a pay-
off to funds borrowed from dedicated accounts. The continued giving in
April and lowered expenses allowed for a surplus of $30,000 for the
month! Your commitment to our ministry is a great testimony to our
shared faith in the God who provides for all our needs. God continues to
demonstrate how our generosity brings His Kingdom into our lives.
Your Ministry Support Committee
SCPC is accepting nominations for mem-
bers of this church to be a part of the 2016 Nominating Commit-
tee for Elders and Deacons. This committee will be called to
bring forward the next year’s slate of Elders and Deacons.
As provided through our Book of Order, the Nominating Commit-
tee is made up of representatives of the church membership.
It also includes two currently serving elders and a deacon
appointed by the Session. This body will be charged to support
the unity in diversity that reflects the richness of SCPC member-
ship.
Please submit names and contact information in writing to Becky
Knip at the church office or place the names and contact infor-
mation in the Nominating Committee input box found at the
back of the Narthex or at the Welcome Cart.
Suggested names provided by the congregation will be reviewed
by the current Nominating Committee. Once the slate of 2016
Nominating Committee Nominees has been confirmed, a congre-
gational meeting will be called to officially approve the 2016
Nominating Committee.
The 2016 Nominating Committee will begin meeting in fall
2015. An average of one hour a week will be required in order
to review and discern nominees for elders and deacons. Then, in
January 2016 the Nominating Committee will bring forward the
slate of nominees for elders and deacons for 2016-2019 at a duly
called congregational meeting.
Any questions regarding this call, please reach out to the Mod-
erator of the 2015 Nominating Committee, Larry Thomas,
committee members Connie Crichton, Jan Galati, Penny Wood,
or Pastor Steve Schibsted.
Nominations for Nominating Committee will be open through
June 21, 2015.
