With the arrival of another June comes one more anniversary! Happy 22nd Penn Club! This is also the time of year that we get to welcome some of our newest members from the Class of 2016. This group joins other recent graduates in representing the future of Penn’s vision in New York. Please join me in welcoming them into our ranks. Their involvement with the Club brings us a burst of energy and innovation as we continue to tailor our programs and events to match the diversity of our membership.

Our All Members’ Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 14th. The business meeting will start promptly at 6:15pm, with the reception starting immediately afterwards. You can register on our website, or by emailing [email protected].

A few things that we are currently working on: a new and improved website, fun & innovative food & beverage promotions, and an exciting programs calendar. Please stay tuned!

I’d also like to thank a special group of members who have taken advantage of our “refer-a-friend” special and helped attract new members to the Club:

Maxine and Sam Friedman, Margaret Berkowitz, Rick Nelson, Deesha Hill, James L. Freeman, Michael Useem, Sara Burack, Lisa Carraway, Richard Zenker and more…

Thank you, and enjoy your $100 house credit! – R. Mark Jezierski

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - Panagiotis Madamopoulos-Moraris, L’09

Penn Club Member Since: 2013

Lives in: Athens, Greece

Hobbies: Speargun fi shing, freediving, studying the works of Thukydides

In one sentence, what do you actually do all day in your job? My job revolves around international business development and scaling; designing, monitoring, evaluating and negotiating market entries, real estate and wholesale transactions and opportunities.

Where do you like to vacation? My ancestors’ birthplace, the stately and revered since the Homeric Age island of Symi, located on the SE cerulean waters of the Aegean Sea.

What do you often do at the Penn Club? I mostly use it as my out-of-the-offi ce offi ce for business meetings, also a place to have classmate reunions or relaxed hangouts every time I am in the city.

Do you have any advice for new Penn Club members on how to best utilize the Club? I would advise them to actually read the newsletter, attend at least 1 event per month, meet up at the Club often so as to turn it into a ritual, and fi nally research the alumni database and get a suitable mentor.

MI OLA - Building an Authentic Brand in an Insta-Fake TimeMonday, June 6th, Reception: 7pm, Lecture: 7:30pm

What’s meaningful and lasting today?

We talk a lot about the importance of intent and mindfulness, buy products endorsed by celebrities (Hello Kanye!) and fi ll our heads with gossip about Beyonce, the Kardashians, and other celebrity propaganda.

So, how does a scrappy, sexy swimwear brand — that’s revolutionizing beaches around the world compete?

Helena Fogarty (C ‘94, Stern ‘06), founder and CEO of MI OLA-Sexy Swimwear that Stays on-will discuss building a meaningful, authentic swimwear brand that empowers women and lasts. She will share experiences and lessons learned from her fi rst 3 years running MI OLA, the best swimwear for women who move. She’ll discuss:

• How to reach an audience and break through the media noise with authenticity;

• How she’s leveraging expertise and relationships from her days at Chanel, Ferragamo and Zac Posen;

• Raising capital for e-commerce, as a female and as an outsider.$27++ per member and $37++ per guest for RSVPs by Monday, May 30th. $37++ per member and $47++ per guest for late reservations. Price includes lecture, drink, and snacks. To RSVP email [email protected] or RSVP online.
