Message from Mr. Lombaert

Retirements of Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Coulter, and Mrs. Wardle It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Coulter and Mrs. Wardle. We will miss them, but we are very happy for them as they move on to the next adventure of their lives. Congratulations from all of us Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Coulter and Mrs. Wardle! You will be missed!

Staff Changes for September 2017 Mrs. Agnew and Mrs. Rathgeber will continue to be on maternity leave to start the year. We will be hiring for these positions soon. Mrs. Lancaster will be our new Kindergarten teacher. Mr. Lewis will be our new grade 6 teacher. Ms. Lee will be our new grade 7 - 8 teacher. We will be announcing the new physical education teacher along with some other changes and new positions in the near future. PAC UPDATE

Parent Council will be holding a “Buick Drive for Your Students” fundraiser June 3, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the Victoria Inn parking lot. Volunteers are needed to help run the event as well as anyone interested in taking a test drive can e-mail khpac@outlook.com to set up a time. This is a great opportunity to raise money towards the playground and it only takes about 15 minutes of your time. Walk ups welcome! There will be a BBQ there as well. PAC will have a new Executive next year as the current Chair and Social Events planner, Charlene and Shannon, have completed three years on the Executive and are moving on. Movements were made within the current Executive to fill the positions. Any parent can be a member of Parent Council without being on the Executive. Chair Person – Dave Romeril Vice-Chair – Lynda Arndt Secretary – Angela Grudinski Treasurer – Peter Manness Social Events – Robyn Romeril Volunteer Co-ordinator – Sheena Roels Attending a meeting gives you voting rights and a say in what goes on in your school. We would encourage you all to check out a meeting. Volunteers always encouraged to help out with events. The Lunch Program has been handed over to the school after a unanimous vote at the last meeting. It will not impact anything for students and families that currently stay for lunch. It simply means that instead of PAC running it the school will have all control of it. Prices will remain the same for next year and if there is ever a change in price a full financial statement will be delivered at a PAC meeting followed by a vote in order to increase costs. PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL FAMILY BBQ PAC will be hosting a Year-End Wrap up BBQ. Come out and celebrate the accomplishments of another year with games, music, friends and family.

Mrs. Wardle’s class participated in the Princess Dental Program “Brush to Win”. Students kept track of brushing their teeth twice a day for the months of February , March and April. Returned calendars were submitted to Princess Dental with a chance to win a piggy bank with 30 loonies. Maia Placatka was a lucky winner and each of her classmates received a Minion toothbrush. Congratulations to Maia!

2017 - 2018 school year the Brandon School Division will be having Half-Day Professional Development Days. We are pleased to announce that the YMCA of Brandon will be working with the Brandon School Division to provide child care at the schools on those half days.

Registration will begin August 21, 2017 for YMCA members and September 5, 2017 for non YMCA members. (Members mean you must have a membership with the YMCA fitness center. This does not include if you are just in the before and after school program). Registration will be done online so please go to our website, www.ymcabrandon.ca and go to the link.

Cost is $15.00 for Members and $20.00 for Non–Members.

Children must be registered in the school they go to. Each location will have 30 spaces.

Full day Professional Development Days will still be held at the YMCA and registration dates are the same as above.

Students will have the opportunity to meet their next year teacher.

When: Thursday, June 15th, 2017 - 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Where: Meet at Library

This will be a chance for kindergarten students and their parents to participate in centres and try some activities that will help them get ready for kindergarten. We recommend that siblings stay home so that you can share this special time with your kindergarten student. Please meet at 9:30 a.m. in the library for introductions and instructions for the special morning together. It would be wonderful if you could arrive earlier, if possible. We will divide into groups and visit various areas of the school. Please plan on staying for the duration of the morning. We will be purchasing school/craft supplies in bulk for both classes to share. ($30.00 per child) Please bring this $30.00 fee on June 15th, so that the supplies will be purchased and ready for the first day of school in September. Cheques can be made payable to Kirkcaldy Heights School.

Each child will receive a special bag packed with books and activities to enjoy at home!
