NOVEMBER 2020 • #158 ELK-O-GRAM • Volume 42, Issue 8
Members all,
November starts with losing an hour of daylight and the be-ginning of the holiday season. As most of you know, the ENF grant program was very im-portant to my dad. In 2014, he volunteered to write grants that would bring in funds to help homeless veterans, foster children, people with disabilities & local military groups in harms way. Our lodge has received $53,500 that has helped so many people. Fraternally yours, Adam Church, Exalted Ruler As a reminder, we are still in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis. During these times we are taking extra steps to maintain the health and safety of our employees and members. We are taking extra precau-tions in sanitizing the lodge. In addition, our employees are required
to wear masks while on duty, this includes bartenders, servers, and cooks. We would also like to remind you that social distancing is still in place in the Lodge and on the grounds. We are requesting that our members wear proper PPE if a safe distance cannot be main-
tained while at the lodge. While the lodge is open at half capacity, we want members to be aware that there are still risks despite the extra steps we are taking to ensure the lodge is clean and safe. If you are feeling ill or have been around someone that has tested
positive for Covid-19, please stay home. In addition to this, new guidelines will be enforced per the Governor, that masks will be required any time you come in contact with a server or bartender.

By Maxine Johnson, President
Our next meeting is Nov 5th. Come and have a drink on the Ladies.
I am sure you have received your letter from Carolyn Chambers for the Bakeless Bake Sale. This money will not go into our Treasury but will be donated to the Lodge to help finance the Eddy Fisher Christmas Bas-kets. We all know with COVID-19 there will be more need to help oth-ers this year. Thank you to Carol and Martin Fisher for your letter and donation. Make check payable to: Elks Ladies #158, and give by Dec. 1. Mail to Carolyn Chambers, 3306 Telford Drive, Springfield, IL 62711. There is an envelope in the Walnut Room for donations as well.
Diann Harbour will have the Mercy Tree set up in the Walnut Room on November 3rd. Please take an ornament that has the name, age and several ideas for gifts of a child or mom. Put your wrapped gifts in plas-tic or in a gift bag, tie the ornament around the bag and return to the Lodge by December 15th. Please sign the posted sheet with your name opposite of the name you took.
The Four Dementia Quartet will be our entertainment for our Decem-ber 3rd meeting. They will perform at 7:00 p.m. following a short meet-ing at 6:30 p.m. After the performance we will enjoy appetizers and sweets. Please bring your favorite appetizer or sweet for the food table.
At our January 7th meeting we will have a Pound Auction. Bring your beautifully decorated wrapped gift weighing a pound to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Items we have had in the past were candy, wine, nails, crackers, hand lotion and a head of cabbage. It is always a fun night with Bill Beck auctioneering. Have a safe, healthy and happy Thanksgiving.

2019-2020 ANNUAL AWARDS presented by PER John N.
Begue’, Jr.
I want to thank all the members of the lodge who stepped up and
continue to step up and help the lodge and our community with
whatever is needed. The announcement and presentation of these
awards should have been done in late March 2020 coinciding with
the ER Roast, however due to COVID we were unable to hold the Roast, and
our presentation was delayed inevitably. Since we started holding our
monthly meetings again, I thought it best to make the announcement of my
selections at the October 2020 Membership Meeting. I was able to present
some of those awards to the members who attended that meeting, but I have
a few left to present. Recipients will see their names on page 2 of the EOG,
and I am proud of all of you and thank you for all you do...well-deserved! I
have selected the following members to receive these awards for their ef-
forts: Elk of the Year is Bobby Edwards, Elk Officer of the Year is Sandra S.
Begue’ , Elk Lady of the Year is Erica Thompson, Elk Family of the Year is
the Bensko Family (Mike and Ray), Citizen of the Year is Alice Beck for her
continued efforts for our Military Personnel through Springfield Cares Sol-
diers’ Mailing; and finally, the Grand Exalted Ruler Recognition Awards go
to Bill Beck for his work on the Memorial Brick Project and Mike Duncan
for his work in installing, maintaining, & trouble-shooting our WiFi sys-
tems—”Mr. IT”. Elks Care—Elks Share!

from the portico to the patio. This dedication patio is in place to rec-
ognize and honor you all, please consider participating with the pur-
chase of a brick Contact Bill Beck at 217-836-7003 or spring-

EDDY FISHER MEMORIAL CHRISTMAS
BASKETS
Please help your Elks Lodge support our community this Christmas
by making a much needed voluntary contribution to fund our annual
Christmas Basket program. Due to COVID-19 our lodge is facing
many fraternal challenges, but those challenges will not stop us from
supporting those truly in need in our community. All of the funds
raised here will be utilized to provide food for our neighbors most in
need this holiday season.

FOOTBALL SUNDAY COOK-OFF!
Starting this Sunday and continuing throughout the sea-
son, we will be having our own little cook-off challenge.
We are encouraging everyone to participate. Each Sun-
day there will be a theme. All members are invited to
cook something up in that theme, or just cook whatever.
You bring in enough to share. People will pay $5 to taste
everyone's different foods. Each person will have a con-
tainer for donations by their food. The person who raises
the most donations is the winner for the day--bragging
rights. We will keep track of the donations each person
brings in. The person who brings in the most donations
for the month will win a free pool membership. We will
give away memberships for October, November, Decem-
ber, and January. The Grand Prize for the person who
brings in the most donations overall will win their Elks
Dues paid for one year and a pool membership.

ANOTHER $1000 DRAWING
We had such an overwhelm-ing response to the first and second drawings, with many people trying to get tickets after we sold out, we have decided to do a third draw-ing. The rules are the same. Each ticket will be $20. The
drawing will be held after the 100th ticket has been sold. You do not need to be present to win, and the winner does not have to be a member. There will be a drawing every Friday night until the last ticket is sold. For that drawing, the winner must be present to win, and the ticket drawn will win $20 or an additional ticket put in the drawing. You can come into the Lodge to purchase your tickets or contact Glenda Cassens through Face-book or phone at 217-971-8598. This is an easy fund-raiser, and no one has to volunteer to work!!! Let's try to make this one as successful.
Elks Ladies Christmas Party
When: Thursday, December 3rd Time: 6:00 p.m. Cocktail hour with hors d'oeuvres Entertainment: 7:00 p.m. by “4th De-mentia” quartet The event is open to Elks Ladies, Elks Members, and their guests. For more information, contact Maxine Johnson at 217-503-3550 or Diann Harbour at 217-494-6136 Come, enjoy the festivities, and support the Ladies or-ganization who continually supports the needs of our Lodge.
At the August 6th Elks Ladies Meeting,
Brenda Ooms presented checks totaling
$700 to Bill Block for the Children's Care
Corporation. Donations were collected as
a result of the Ladies desire to purchase
a memorial brick in the name of Judy Mattson at a cost of $100.
Brenda Ooms took on the task of collecting money and came back
with an additional $350. The Ladies added $150 to the amount
which then boosted the total $500. The Ladies then voted to donate
an additional amount of $200 in honor of the Deceased Elks Ladies.
This generous effort raised a total of $700 from lodge and ladies'
members. Thanks to everyone who helped us raise the needed
funds to purchase bricks and the extra money to donate to our state
charity - CCC.
