Happy Father’s DayJune 21st is the day to honor your dad or your memories of him, or to be honored if you are one.

Flag DayHang out that flag on June 14th to let everyone know we’re lucky we live in this country.

VisitorsThey probably don’t know our rules, but you are responsible for your visitors. You could say “BTW, we are asked to tell our visitors that our rule for “x is…, and also that…” and state whatever rule(s) you think might be important for your visitor to know. No pets to run at large, be fed outside, make disturbances.Rool 10: Home Standards, Maintenance, Size & Changes. Any new home must be approved by our board and meet State, Federal standards. See the rule for size, removal, remodels, skirting/awnings, appearance, doorways, utilities, water use, malfunctions, antennas, physical changes, electrical restrictions, drainage, use of concrete, fumigating, door/window/furnace/hot water heater/roof replacement and more. This is a multipage rule that covers a lot of information. The AC/MC (Architectural Committee/Maintenance Committee) can help you sort out questions and answers.

Eat less plastic!Do you eat a credit card every week? The magazine Consumer Reports thinks you consume the equivalent, and included an article about it in the June 2020 issue stating that “…tiny bits of plastic are in our food, drinking water, the air we breathe, and, yes, inside our bodies.” The article suggests six ways to use less plastic: 1) Drink tap water - don’t rely on bottled water; 2) heat food in or on the stove or by microwaving in glass - don’t microwave in plastic; 3) buy and store food in glass, silicone, or foil - don’t store food in plastic, especially plastic that may contain harmful chemicals; 4) eat fresh food as much as possible - don’t rely on processed food wrapped in plastic; 5) vacuum regularly - don’t allow household surfaces to get dusty and 6) work with your community - don’t assume your impact is limited to what you do in your personal life.

What tips do you have to share with us all?

Weed controlThe Garden Committee sends out a big thank you to John (sp. 5) for helping complete the Weed Control Project outside the Brommer Street Wall on May 26th. John loaded his truck with a cubic yard of purchased redwood gorilla hair groundcover, and then covered the area between the wall and the sidewalk with it to prevent future weed growth. (The Garden Committee had previously covered the area with weedcloth.) He placed the excess groundcover east of the Sorrento Oaks Senior Park sign, below the painted wall. Thank you John!

WalkingDo you know that it’s 1/3 of a mile if you walk once around our park? The streets are wide enough for walking, our gardens have plants to behold, and our neighbors are friendly. You can walk down into the glen if you feel like viewing nature at its best. Take a walk: it’s good for you, it’s a pleasant way to enjoy our spring weather and maybe you’ll meet some neighbors new to you.
