Rectory will remain closed to in-person
contact. However, you can reach the office
Monday – Thursday from 10:30am until
1:30pm. When calling for information,
Mass Cards and/or Mass registration,
please call during those hours. Otherwise,
please leave a message on the machine and
we will return your call.
We are extremely grateful for your continuing financial support.
Our receipts for the week of June 14 were $9,487. This number reflects collections received in the office this week, $6,540, and the weekly average from Faith Direct was $2.947. Your generosity enables us to continue with the necessary upkeep and pay recurring expenses.

Please remember in your prayers in a
very special way, our first responders and those who are now serving on the
“front line”. Words cannot express how
grateful we are for everything that they are doing for us. The support and
strength amid these difficult and
uncertain times gives us proof that the
angels are working among us!
This week (Friday, June 19) should have been our end-of-the-year picnic, so maybe we can take a moment to thank our God for all His blessings and ask Him and our Blessed Mother to keep us safe and to heal our world. Please keep on wearing your mask when you venture out and as Fr. Michal asks, wash our hands frequently as we do what we can in the emerging new normal. Let us continue to pray for each other and for all our members who have gone before us to their eternal rest. Many blessings on your, my friends.

Church Reopening
We are very happy that we can once again meet together as a family.
The online registration worked wonderfully. Here are a few additional considerations:
• If you arrive without preregistering, you may have to be turned away. Mass attendance
will be limited. If you plans change andyou will not be attending, please cancel your
registration so we can make room for other parishioners. If you do not have
computer access, you can call Parish Office Monday – Wednesday 10:30am – 1:30pm.
• You can only access the church from the Speedwell Avenue entrance.
• Please remember that you MUST wear a face mask, and while we have hand sanitizer
available, you should also have your own for your own convenience.
• There will be no Holy Water available. Also, please do not leave any brochures or
novenas on the side tables.
• There will be no singing/choir; there will be no offertory procession or collection
(receptacles will be at the doors of the church). The Exchange of Peace is to be done
without human contact.
• You will be seated by the ushers and you will be dismissed by the ushers. Social
distancing will be maintained at all times.
• There is absolutely NO ACCESS to the Sacristy, Cry Rooms, or Choir Loft.
• You will stay in your pew for Communion. The priest will bring the Eucharist to
you.
• You cannot remain after Mass for private prayer. The Church will be locked to allow
for cleaning before the next Mass.
If you wish to attend weekday Mass at 9am, you do not have to pre-register. There will be no seating arrangement for weekdays, so please choose a seat that allows for proper social distancing. We will continue to live-stream daily (9am) and Sunday Mass (10:30am) until further notice. Most importantly, WELCOME HOME!
Corpus Christi Food Drive
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted those living in poverty the most and Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson's 3 Food Pantries (Father English Center, Paterson; Hope House, Dover; and Partnership for Social Services, Franklin) are giving out more food than ever before.
Most months, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson gives out food to 5,000 - 7,000 people at their 3 food pantries. In April of 2020, this number practically doubled, as they helped over 11,000 individuals who are feeling the direct economic impact of COVID-19.
Bishop Serratelli has authorized a Catholic Charities Diocesan-wide food collection in all parishes. This year, the drive has gone virtual, and you can shop online and have items directly shipped to Catholic Charities Food Pantries. The drive will continue through July 31.

Operation Chillout - Summer Campaign This is the 20th anniversary year of Operation Chillout, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing the basic necessities to help the homeless, primarily veterans, survive the summer and winter months. Many events and fundraisers were planned to commemorate this milestone. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, however, many of them have been canceled. The summer campaign will be conducted entirely online. St. Virgil's is one of Operation Chillout's collection partners. Instead of donating cases of bottled water, baseball caps and tee shirts, we hope you will support our gift registry at www.operationchillout.org. For $10 you can "purchase" three cases of bottled water (24 packs) or two tee shirts or two baseball caps. All donations will be used to purchase these items as we are an organization of volunteers, and we will make the purchases and deliveries - no middleman involved. You will receive a receipt for your donation. All items will be distributed at locations where the homeless congregate, primarily soup kitchens. Please be as generous as you can to make the months ahead a little less stressful for those who have so little and have many challenges to face.

It seems to have been a very long 4 months since we have been together. I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the warmer weather. At least we can get out-of-doors and wave to our neighbors, not feelilng quite so isolated. I am mission you all and am lookingforward to seeing all of us together again – safely!!
Again, simple words understood by all. Let us feel in Matthew’s Gospel the comfort we need: “Even all the hairs of your head are counted.
So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Today many of us are able to attend Mass and receive the Eucharist. The comfort, the strength we need are again before us. We are one body
in faith, and hope we that those of us who can attend the Eucharist reach out and pray for those of us who are united with them in faith, but
are unable to be there.
Psalm 145 says.“The eyes of all look to you, Lord, and you give them their food in due season.”
Lord, count the hairs on our head and the sparrows in our yard, and let us feel Your comfort and protection in this very difficult time in
which we are living.

We are witnessing confusion on every side. We have the virus, and we have the
streets filled with protestors. We are besieged, as was Jeremiah, a strong prophet
from the Old Testament. We hear today’s Psalm say: “Answer me, O Lord, for
bounteous is your kindness in your great mercy turn toward me.” Just as in the
past weeks, the words of the liturgy reach across generations and comfort us.

Old Testament: Jeremiah 20:10-13 New Testament: Matthew: 10:37-42
In last week’s column we discussed the role of
deacons. In this week’s column we begin to
discuss the role of priests.
In the old testament we read whereas His
priests God appointed Aaron, the older brother
of Moses, and Aaron’s descendants forever as
the priests in Israel (Exodus 28:1-3) As His
priests they were set apart and were given the
immeasurable privilege of doing service in the
tabernacle and, later, the temple. They
represented their people before God and to
offer both gifts and sacrifices for forgiveness
of sins of the people as required by the Mosaic
Law.
The Roman Catholic priesthood is a calling or
a vocation that one receives from God. It is not
something one simply chooses but an
invitation that one receives from the Lord. The
nature of the Catholic priesthood can only be
understood in reference to Christ, for the
priesthood is a continuation of Christ’s
ministry here on earth.
The Church has always understood that at the
moment of ordination to the priesthood the
candidate is conformed to the Christ, the Priest,
in such a way that he can act as a living and

transparent image of Christ. He is called to
carry out his ministry not in his own right,
not according to any earthly authority but,
rather through the power of Christ and
becomes the Alteri Christus (the ”Other
Christ”). He becomes the earthly Christ by
both his ministry and his example. In the
Sacrament of Ordination, the candidate
receives the anointing of the Holy Spirit and
dedicates himself to a life of service to the
Lord and the Church. He is the witnesses of
Christ, the Shepard who guides and
educates the people of God about the word
of the Lord and the teachings of the Church.
As a priest he needs to be of exemplary
character, empathetic (spiritually
detached), honest and caring, and above all
else, moral and highly reliable and
dependable. He needs to be an exceptional
listener to be able to advise his congregation
on matters of faith, friends and family,
morals, and life.
Pope Benedict taught that the priest’s
mission is “to link the two realities that
appear to be so separate, that is, the world
of God, far from us, often unknown, to the
human being and our human world. The
priest’s mission is to be a mediator, a
bridge that connects, and thereby to bring
human beings to God, to His redemption,
to His true light, to His true life”.
The Church has long held that the apostles
were ‘ordained’ at the Last Supper by
Christ when He said, ‘do this in memory of
me’(1 Cor 11:24). By His action He
instituted the Eucharist to become one of
the primary functions of the priesthood.
Immediately after His Resurrection, Christ
bestowed on the apostles the power to
forgive sins: ‘whose sins you forgive they
are forgiven’ and entrusted sacral power to
the priest.
