Deputy’s Delivery Safe and Respectful Digital Citizenship In an ever-evolving and technology-rich climate, educating students around their responsibility in being safe and respectful digital citizens has never been more crucial. Digital technology has a role in education, is a huge part of our present and the future, and provides endless learning opportunities. In saying this, it can also present challenges and complexities - even with adults, not to mention children whose social and emotional capabilities are still very much developing. Whilst digital citizenship education is built into our curriculum, we continue to seek best methods of empowering our students to make positive choices in this space. A space where privacy controls are constantly evolving, where students are accessing a wider variety of sites and online communication platforms, and where parents and schools both play major roles in the education and supervision of young people in the cyber world. In response to recent and ongoing parent concerns around student online communication, we connected with our local Police Youth Liaison Officer, Dani Saric, to help supplement our Stage 2 and 3 education around safe and respectful online behaviour. It is becoming more and more evident that students are accessing a wide variety of online content in households and from an increasingly young age. We are currently working hard on addressing the following elements of digital citizenship: cyber bullying (what is it and what do I do if it's happening to me?), respectful communication, protecting privacy (setting and protecting passwords),and safe and legal ages for social media platforms (why platforms can be unsafe and why there are age restrictions).

The NSW Department of Education has an excellent, user-friendly bank of resources for parents: https://www.digitalcitizenship.nsw.edu.au/parents-articles. This page allows parents to view articles and advice around many different aspects of cyber safety - gaming, social media, digital footprint, managing screen time, online speech and the law, and digital resilience. I strongly urge all parents to engage with these resources. The familiarisation and education needs to start very early - as soon as your child first touches a device or sees a parent interacting with a device. I must also reassure you that it's never too late to open up these conversations, and as a family co-design rules and expectations around safe and positive use of devices and online services. We will continue to work hard in this area at school and look forward to partnering with families to promote the positive use of digital technology in empowering our students to be safe and respectful digital citizens. Thank you in advance, for playing your part. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Warm regards Anna O’Connor Deputy Principal

Tonere was a part of the Sydney East Rugby League Under 11s NSW State Championship winning side. Regional teams from across NSW played a tournament in Kiama on the NSW South Coast for the title of State Champions. Tonere earned to respect of his peers by playing hard in the preliminary games showing his talents as an individual and a team player which earned him the honor of captaining the team in the final. Tonere has done our school proud by showing that team work, leadership, hard work and resilience pays off. Lili W represented Bondi Public School as a member of the Sydney East Basketball team in Penrith. They competed against all the other regional sides from the rest of the state for the State Championship. Although they finished 12th in the state, Lili Managed to be nominated MVP in the teams final match. Well done Lili you have made us so proud Bijou Moonlight dripped from the windowsill like spilt milk and formed the sort of puddles that young children splash in on rainy days. Ivy’s hands clamped over the curtains, dragging them over the starry sky beyond the sliding sill. The mountaintop painted in snow was adorned in moonlight, looking like a wedding cake coated in too much white icing. Bijou in Year 3 has won the Australia-wide Saci Publishing writing competition with her submission, 'The Shadow of a Virus'. Students from across Australia were asked to submit a piece of writing detailing a fictional or non-fictional experience of COVID-19. This amazing achievement means her work will be published in a collection of short pieces later in the year. Well done Bijou! Click here to read her full story. Thinking and Acting Globally 🌎

Sylvie S - was asked to represent Bondi Public School at a special event yesterday that took place in the Museum of Contemporary Art. Run by Poppy Gallazzo's dad in 5/6B, this project is called 'The Lion's Share' and is a way for profit gained from using animals in advertising campaigns to be put towards global wildlife conservation projects. This was a fantastic opportunity for Sylvie as she co-hosted the even with Whippa from Nova FM and spoke about her passion for being a Planeteer at school. We are all very proud of Sylvie's great achievement and hope that this is the start of a great career advocating for what she believes in!

Poppy This week Bondi Public School proudly received some wonderful news about the outstanding contributions one of our students has made to the local community. Poppy Smith from 2Y has displayed a tremendous amount of generosity and compassion by helping some of the vulnerable members of our community. Poppy participated in the Kids Giving Back program last school holidays which involved children and their families preparing tasty and nutritious meals for others in need. She was one of 300 young people in the program who helped produce over 3800 meals. Congratulations Poppy on being such a kind and responsible role model for other students. Volunteering your time through selfless acts of kindness has helped improve the lives of others. Congratulations on these wonderful achievements!

Captains Report World environment day On the 5th of June it is world environment day and this year's theme is ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION. World Environment Day is the UN's most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. KINDERGARTEN AND NEW ENROLMENTS 2022

Do you have a child turning five years of age before 31 July 2022 who will be ready to start school next year? We are busy at the moment enrolling students from our local intake area for 2022.

School Tours: Our school tours take place on a fortnightly basis during Terms 2 and 3. They provide an excellent opportunity for prospective parents and students to observe our school in action. Bookings can be made through the school office.

Enrolment: Our enrolment officer can be contacted on 02 9130 6998 and will be happy to assist with any enquiries regarding your child’s enrolment.

Our new online enrolment process makes it easier and faster to enrol your child at your local school.https://bondi-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/enrolment.html

As outlined in the department’s enrolment policy, our school may accept enrolments from outside our local enrolment area if places are available. We will assess applications for non-local enrolment on a case-by-case basis. We will be holding a Parent Information Evening on Wednesday 18th August at 7pm. The purpose of this meeting will be to outline the transition process and provide information to families regarding the start of the school year for Kindergarten 2022.

Transition programs: Starting school is a big milestone for children and their families. The transition between learning environments can be both challenging and exciting. We have three dates for children and their families to attend our Transition Program. 13 October, 20 October and 27 October. Further information will be emailed to confirmed enrolments.

We are looking forward to welcoming new children and families to our school.
