Review of the film “The Proposal”

by ENF Peer Leaders

In the movie Sandra Bullock plays a headstrong

professional women completely focused on her

career. The theme of Love vs. Money flows

throughout the film and is the topic of the ENF

discussion board on Facebook.

Opinions:

Jocelyn: I thought this was a very funny movie. I

enjoyed the movie because Bullock’s co-star,

Ryan Reynolds, hates her in the beginning, but

by the end of the movie he sees her for who she

really is and they fall in love. Reynolds teaches

Bullock a lesson on love.

Brianna: I thought that this movie was a very

cute romantic comedy. I liked the love-hate

relationship between Bullock as the employer

and Reynolds as the employee. This movie was a

good example of non-traditional gender roles

where the woman is the hard to get successful

professional.

Entre Nuestras Familias

Between Our Families (ENF) is an

ABCD Health Services program provides

Intergenerational support to youth and

parents to increase family communication

preventing unplanned pregnancy, STDs and

HIV infection. ENF program has three

components: Participants, Peer Leaders and

Parents. ENF provides 8-10 week

workshops on how to talk comfortably

about sex, clarify and understand one’s own

values, enhance communication, identify

community resources and more. ENF trains

and certifies parents and teens to train

others in their communities. ENF program

is constantly trying to reach community

members to participate for short or long

term in ENF events. Also, ENF participants

are in search of Role Models that teens feel

they can relate to and can invite to our

events. One of ENF’s major annual events

is “Coming of Age or Quinceañera.”

Below is an interview of newly

certified peer leader, Jocelyn

Herrera. Jocelyn was certified as an

ENF peer leader this June and will

begin working with us this summer!

ENF P.A.C.T. leader Brianna

Sanders conducted an interview with

Jocelyn to see what the workshops

meant to her and to hear her

thoughts on teaching workshops for

the first time this summer.

Why do you think these

workshops are important for

young people?

I think they are important

because you learn stuff you are

not taught in school, like about

my body, self confidence and

goals.

Have you shared any of what

you learned with others?

Yes. One of my friends has very

low self esteem. She has

moments when she is very upset

because she feels like no one

likes her, even people of her

own family. So one day when

she was upset I showed her a

worksheet that I had from the

ENF workshop on self esteem. I

explained to her what I had

learned during that lesson. I

think it made her feel better and

I was glad that I could help out

my friend.

Which lessons are you most

excited about teaching?

All of them! Each workshop

teaches valuable lessons and I

hope the girls I teach learn as

much as I did.

What do you foresee as being

your biggest challenge when

teaching the workshops?

I think my biggest challenge is

ensuring that my students grasp

the importance of the material

and understand what I am

teaching. I want them to realize

that these lessons are important

for them to carry throughout

their lives.
