I recently finished the book, Man’s Search for Meaning, by Austrian psychiatrist Viktor Frankl. Below is one of my favor-ite quotes from his book. “Don’t aim at success-the more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happi-

ness, cannot be pursued: it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side-effect of one’s per-sonal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it hap-pen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long run-in the long run, I say!- success will follow precisely because you had forgotten to think of it.”

I love this quote because it is a constant reminder to me that hard work pays off. One of our goals at SERVPRO® of Chattanooga is for “success” to en-sue our daily efforts to do what is right. We have been in business for almost five years and have been very blessed during that time. Thank you for the confidence you place in us each and every day to take care of your customers.

The fourth of July, Riverbend, and Lookouts games are a time to celebrate with friends and family and private firework shows in backyards.

In order to celebrate safely, consider the follow-ing tips provided by the U.S. Fire Administration:

The best way to enjoy fireworks is to view public fireworks displays put on by professionals.

If you plan to use fireworks, ensure they are le-gal in your area.

Always read the directions and warning labels on fireworks. If a device is not marked with the contents, directions and a warning label, do not light it.

Supervise children around fireworks at all times.

Stand several feet away from lit fireworks. If a firework does not go off, do not stand over it to investigate. Pour water over it and dispose of it.Never light fireworks indoors or near dry grass.

Keep a bucket of water and/or a fire extinguisher nearby.

Know how to operate the fire extinguisher properly.

Do not wear loose clothing while cooking at a barbeque.

Use caution when using lighter fluid on a bar-beque.

Do not add fluid to an already lit fire, as the flame can flashback into the container and explode.

Never grill/barbecue in enclosed areas, as carbon monoxide could be produced.

Have a happy and safe summer from your friends at SERVPRO of Chattanooga!

Tips to be SAFEthis summer

The knowledge of psychrometrics isessential to restoring a water damagedstructure to its preloss condition. While yourinitial reaction may be to grab a few towels tomop up the mess and place a box fan or twoaround the damaged area, SERVPRO® of Chattanooga follows strict industry approvedstandards to help lower the chances of any secondary damages.

If your business or home suffers a water dam-age, we will follow a number of steps to ensure the structure is dried out properly. These steps are as follows:

• Inspect the building to detect everycomponent that is wet, to help preventsecondary damage from happening.

• Measure how much moisture is in wetmaterials and monitor whether the mate-rials are drying properly.

• Speed up Mother Nature by using pro-fessional drying equipment.

What exactly does “speed up Mother Nature”mean? A wet building can often dry naturallybecause our environment always seeks equi-librium.

When materials are wet, moisture will naturallymove to drier air at the surface of the material–but only if the air is, indeed, drier. The onlyproblem is nature takes too long, and second-ary damages may occur while the building is drying out.
