I Choose Jesus

Daily choices. We live with daily choices.

Some decisions are easy. Some are difficult. This store or that. One event or the other. One

candidate over another.

Sometimes we have many options. Sometimes we have few. But life today is characterized by

choices—big and small, ordinary and life-changing.

As a Christian, how—and what—do I decide? I choose Jesus!

Over the summer, we’ll be delving into God’s Word during worship to understand the

challenges and the possibilities of living as followers of Jesus in today’s world. Each week

we’ll explore a key topic about discipleship and open up Scripture to reveal God’s truth and

design for making choices that are pleasing in His sight.

Two foundational truths will shape our teaching and learning:

• Jesus Christ has chosen me—all by His grace—to go and “produce much fruit.”

Listen to our Savior: If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you

wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit,

showing yourselves to be my disciples (John 15:7-8).

He reminds His disciples: You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that

you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my

name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other (John 15:16-17).

• Because Jesus has chosen me, I seek to choose Jesus in all my decisions—His truth, His

purpose, His ways.

The first Christians celebrated the freedom and strength Jesus brought into their lives. His

sacrificial death liberated. His victory over death empowered. He died for me, they

proclaimed to the world. He rose again for me, they shared with everyone who would listen.

And the Spirit of God has worked faith in me, revealing God’s Good News, proclaiming the

Gospel of forgiveness, calling me, opening my eyes, illuminating me, inflaming my heart, so

that I grasp and receive His life and salvation, cling to Jesus, and persevere in His gift.

Now I want to follow Jesus… choosing Him, following Him, bearing fruit as He promised, as

the Holy Spirit fills and directs me.

That’s St. Paul’s prayer: We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will

through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a

life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in

every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened

with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and

patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the

inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. (Colossians 1:9-12)

We belong to Jesus, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for

God (Romans 7:4) Together we say, “Amen!”

No doubt, friends: you will have decisions to make this summer. About your time. About your

work habits. About your resources. Many people have acknowledged and shared the simple

reality, “Every day brings choices.”

But our choices as Christians can have a momentous impact on our families, our community, and

even the world. Join us in worship every weekend this summer, starting June 19 (Father’s Day),

to discover anew the amazing truths God has made known to us in His Word. And check out our

Website (TrinityIndy.org) for resources to deepen your knowledge of Scripture and the Lord’s

will for our lives.

I am convinced: Connected to Jesus, we will produce much fruit.

Lord, give us Your grace, to choose You!

It is hard to believe that we are al-

ready at the end of another school year!

How great and good our God is to have al-

lowed us the privilege to reach so many in

the name of Jesus Christ. Our enrollment is

currently at 172. We look forward to wel-

coming our new families along with our

new principal and his family to our Trinity

family. Welcome Matthew, Jennifer, Kathe-

rine (Kati), Elisabeth (Elli), and Nathanael

(Nate) Riley!

We were blessed this year to have

been given a $2,222 scholarship through

the “Big City Mission: Tools for Schools

mission project.” Churches that offered the

vacation Bible school program through Con-

cordia Publishing House collected funds to

help Lutheran schools in urban areas. We

were chosen to receive some of those

funds! Five of our families benefited in a

reduction of tuition costs for the year!

What a blessing this was to them. Thank

you LCMS district executives who nominat-

ed our school to receive this blessing!

This year we have had many come

and volunteer their time and talents with

our children. Thank you so much for your

time and energy! You are a blessing to us

in this ministry and we are so blessed by

you!

Last year our SGO fund totaled

$24,000! I would like to encourage the

congregation to think about raising our

SGO fund to $30,000 or even $40,000! We

want to remind you about the 50% tax

credit that it will give to anyone who do‐

nates to this scholarship fund. Please

check out the Lutheran SGO of Indiana

Trinity Circle Our June luncheon will be a pitch-in picnic at Paul Ruster Park, 11300 Prospect St. on June 1st at 11:00. (Carpooling from Trinity at 10:30.) Beverages will be provided. In case of rain, we will meet at Trinity! Food Pantry items for June: toilet paper and dish soap.

Lutheran Hour Ministries has announced the addition of a new radio station to broadcast The Lutheran Hour® in Indianapolis and surrounding communities. Beginning May 22, The Lutheran Hour will air every Sunday at 6:30 a.m. on WBRI/1500 AM. EUCHRE NIGHT CONTINUES! Yes, even in summer, our euchre players want to get together to enjoy their favorite game of cards. Fri. June 3, 7:30 PM is our next night of fellowship. Summer Sport Camps will be held throughout the month of June at LHS. Cross country (June 7–9), soccer (June 6–10), volleyball (June 13–17), basketball (20–24), and tennis (June 27 – July 1) camps will be offered for boys and girls who have completed grades 1–8. Saints Sign-Up – July 20

All students enrolled at LHS should attend Saints Sign-Up on Wednesday, July 20, be-tween 11 am and 7 pm with a parent/guardian to receive information and materials. ID pictures (also to be used in the yearbook) will be taken and course fees will be collected. Classes will start on Tuesday, August 9, at 8:00 am. Lutheran High School is hosting a wrestling camp from June 27- June 30. Camp will be host-ed at the high school in the commons area from 3:15 -5:45. It’s four days of wrestling! A t-shirt will be provided for each wrestler provided their registration is received ASAP!
