SPOTLIGHTING SUCCESS - Wendy Trackey volunteers at Army Community Service on Rose Barracks. Often volunteering as many as 40 hours a week, she has had a profound impact on the community. Specifically, Trackey made improvements to the Volunteer Management Information System database, which allows volunteers to more easily register and track their hours. And as the Volunteer Corps Program volunteer, she is responsible for the resurgence of volunteers at USAG Bavaria. Trackey has been a volunteer for 18 years, most of her time spent with her spouse's Family Readiness Group. “Volunteering is a chance to gather more skills while looking for employment," she said "It is also an opportunity to give back to your community." For her service, she was awarded the Volunteer of the Year in the family member category at a ceremony here April 28. Thank-you Wendy for your service and dedication!

ARMY TRANSITIONS TO SIMPLIFIED DOD REQUEST FOR CHILDCARE WEBSITEBy Mr. Robert Dozier (FMWRC)

FORT SAM HOUSTON, TEXAS -- The Army is transitioning to a new single portal Department of Defense website designed to make it easier for Soldiers to find the childcare they need.

In March 2016, select Army garrison families will begin to use www.MilitaryChildCare.com as their website to search for and request child care services where they are or where they are planning to move.

"The vital function of this website is to simplify the child care search process, helping patrons make better informed decisions about their child care needs," said Theresa Sanders, the Installation Management Command Child, Youth and School Services Outreach Services Program Manager. "The DOD has worked hard to develop a system which allows patrons to create their own account, search and request care, manage requests and update their profile from the convenience of their home," she said.

Using MilitaryChildCare.com, parents can find comprehensive information on child care programs worldwide, conduct a customized search for the care they need, and submit a request for care at any time from any location, Sanders explained.

Web services were first tested in pilot programs throughout the military branches including U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii.

Soldiers and Families at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Forts Belvoir, Campbell, Detrick (Forest Glen and Frederick), Drum, Knox, Lee and Meade and Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall will gain access to the site in March.

Each garrison is working directly to notify the families affected and assist in the implementation of the DOD website rollout.

"We expect the implementation of this new website to be seamless," said Sanders. "Those families already receiving child care services will continue to receive those services without interruption. Those whose name is already on a waiting list will be entered on the new website."

More details will be available at Parent Central Services at each garrison.

According to officials at the U.S. Army Installation Management Command, the Army will continue its rollout in June with 28 new garrisons, including: Forts Benning, Bliss, Buchanan, Bragg, Carson, Gordon, Hamilton, Hood, Jackson, Leavenworth, Leonard Wood, McAlester, McCoy, Polk, Riley, Rucker, Sill, Stewart; Detroit, Picatinny, Pine Bluff, Redstone and Rock Island Arsenals; Anniston and Tobyhanna Army Depots; Carlisle Barracks; West Point; and U.S. Army Garrison Miami. Specific dates of access will be announced locally so that all Soldiers and care-givers will be aware of the timing of the change and how it will impact their family.

Garrisons in Europe are scheduled to follow in September, including Ansbach, Baumholder, Brussels, Garmisch, Grafenwoehr, Hohenfels, Kaiserslautern, Liverno, Schinnen, Shape, Stuttgart, Vicenza and Wiesbaden.

ROSE BARRACKS LIBRARY REOPENS AFTER MOVE, RENOVATIONSBy Rabia Coombs (USAG Bavaria Garrison Public Affairs Office)

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — The Rose Barracks Library branch reopened at a new location and is back to providing full services for its patrons after a two-week closure.

The library branch was closed April 18-29 so garrison staff could move to the renovated building at Bldg. 227. The library at Rose Barracks officially opened its doors again with a ribbon cutting ceremony May 2.

“Our commitment to offer quality programs and work toward customer satisfaction led to the library relocation from Bldg. 2222 — which has been the library’s home since the mid-90s — to Bldg. 227,” said the garrison’s chief of staff Col. Bill Rieper, during the ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday.

The entire branch library’s collection was moved into the renovated building, which used to host the Ristorante Rosalia. Old and outdated furniture was replaced to improve the customer experience.

“I was at a site visit at Ledward Barracks in Schweinfurt — close to the time of the garrison’s closure in 2014 — and noticed that their library was equipped with fairly new furniture, which would upgrade the overall appearance of Rose Barracks Library,” said Siegfried Schieder, the garrison’s librarian. “I asked if we could have it (furniture) after the closure and they said yes,” he added.

Despite the two week moving process library services were available for Rose Barracks customers.

“We had to pack up and move the entire collection,” said Schieder. “We tried to make the move as least inconvenient for our patrons as possible.”

The garrison’s libraries strive to provide Soldiers, civilians and their family members with current and retrospective multimedia material in all subject fields.

The Rose Barracks branch library offers over 20,000 books, more than 5,000 CD’s and blue-rays, close to 1000 music CD’s, various language kits and video games. Services include free Wi-Fi, reference assistance, online catalogs, interlibrary loan service, a computer lab, 14 public PC’s and weekly, monthly and seasonal programs.

“Please take advantage of this great program,” said Rieper during his remarks.

The Rose Barracks Library branch opening hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Tower Barracks Library hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. The garrison’s libraries offer Children’s Story Time program free of charge. The weekly event takes place Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Rose Barracks library branch and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Tower Barracks library.
