Engage Achieve Excel

At Harristown High we believe that all students can achieve and excel when they engage in their learning. We expect this of every student. The JCE at Harristown High supports students to achieve success and be well prepared for their Senior Phase of Schooling. The JCE provides students with the opportunity to work towards achieving aspirational goals and is a means of tracking student progress in the Junior School. The JCE also encourages students to take a greater responsibility for their learning by being engaged and well-prepared lifelong learners.

Graduating from the Junior Secondary School is based on completing a set amount of learning, at a set standard, in a set pattern, including being literate and numerate. The concept of gaining a certificate (JCE) shows success on exit from Junior Secondary Schooling. 80% transparency

Junior Certification of Education

The JCE is a school-based Junior Secondary Schooling qualification awarded to eligible students at the end of Year 9 on completion of the Junior Secondary Phase of Learning.

The Junior Secondary Phase of Learning is a critical stage of education. Through a targeted approach of tracking student progress in the Junior School, the JCE will ensure students are prepared for a pathway that will assist them in achieving high academic outcomes and support their future goals. The JCE will also provide the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the success of students completing their Junior Secondary Schooling.

Planning for a JCE

JCE planning starts in Year 7, when students develop a Junior Education and Training (JET) Plan. JET planning is developed to support students to set academic and personal goals, and to identify individual strengths, areas of growth, and possible career pathways. The plan is agreed between the student, their parent/carers and the school, and maps their learning journey through Junior Secondary School. The JET Plan will be developed by the end of Year 7, updated as necessary, and regularly reviewed to monitor progress.
