My Town in Austin’s Colony
By: Katie Renberg
My Arrival
I am in San Felipe de Austin! I can’t believe it! My
family has $1,000 to invest! And we have 1,200
acres! There are flexible land payments over 3
years! Thanks to Stephen F. Austin!! So I hope we
do good here!
The man himself: Stephen Fuller Austin!
My Arrival
The trip west was pretty rough though.
Momma said the wagon was very old and
we might not be able to make it back if we
fail with our money here. Please let us not
go bankrupt! I love it here!
Our old wagon
1822We are having a horrible year! Almost
all of our cattle died from the harsh winter! And we almost ran out of lumber to build houses! And the Lively was late on arrival!! So all the settlers on the ship were late and have no idea what to do!!

EVERYTHING has gone wrong! This has
been the worst year ever! Momma and
Poppa are saying we have to leave if the
next years are this bad or worse!!!! I
don’t want to leave!! I love it here!!
Momma and Poppa
1823
This year is going better but its still not good :/
The Lively sank and lost all of Austin’s
supplies! I feel bad for him. The winter wasn’t
too harsh but it was still pretty bad.

The Mexicans and our colony had a
dispute over cotton…lets just say they
won. there wasn’t that much lumber
this year either! Momma and Poppa
have already started packing up things
we don’t use right now like the
decorations that Momma put up! I
don’t want to leave!!!!

1824
We had a beautiful amazing year!!! The
colony thrived!! There was a high
demand for lumber and beef!!! I am so
happy!!! Thank the Lord for this
beautiful year!!!
1824
There was a bumper cotton crop!!!
This has been the best year ever!!!
Momma says we will continue living
here!! Yay! I love it here!! This is
the best place ever to live!!!

My Town
My town is San Felipe de
Austin. We will continue
living here! My family is very
happy here!
My Conclusion
Our final profit is $4,356.00!! That’s more than
four times than what we started with!!!! Our
decision to move here was an amazing decision.
I thought with all the problems in the first two
years ,(harsh winter, Indian attacks near our
colony, the drought, and the sinking of the
Lively), that we would nt make it, but we did!!!!
My name is Jane Moa and I am blessed.
