2 Safety and the environment

2.1 Proper use

The programmer should only be used and operated for its intended purpose, namely configuring and programming actuators. Any other use is not allowed and can cause damage to the device.

2.2 Safety instructions

In order to use the programmer safely the following safety instructions must be followed.

Caution

The programmer is an electronic device and must be protected from the following outside influences:

• direct sunlight,

• direct heat sources, e.g. heating appliances,

• liquids, e.g. water,

• temperature fluctuations, e.g. below 0 °C.

Caution

To avoid the risk of losing data it is advisable to use the software to manage the locking systems and use the programmer only for transferring data.

Note: Before commencing work, make sure that the battery has sufficient charge for the next period of use on site.

6 Programming

This section only describes configuring and programming the actuators using the programmer. The transfer of data from the software is described in the operating instructions, document no. k2evo806en.

6.1 Main functions

The two main functions that the programmer can perform on the actuators are writing (exporting) and reading (importing) data. The programmer can perform the export and import wirelessly via the radio interface or the programming cable.

6.2 Export to actuators

In an export the programmer writes the configuration data to the actuators.

The configuration data should be selected from a list in the programmer and exported to an actuator.

Note: For the export the configuration data for the key plans should first be transferred from the software to the programmer.

6.3 Importing from actuators

In an import the programmer reads the configuration data from the actuators.

There is a choice between 3 different data types in the Import menu.

• Info: this menu allows the status data to be read from the actuator (actuator type, locking system, battery status, date/time, firmware, serial number).

• Traceback: only the information from traceback is imported.

7 Data transferbetween software and programmer

7.1 Installing the drivers

This section describes how to install the drivers and connect the programmer to the PC.

Prerequisites for installation are:

• PC with Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, 7 or Microsoft Server 2008

• Drivers CD

• Kaba programmer with USB cable 2.0

1. Insert the software CD in the CD drive. 2. Open the Driver/Programmer1460 folder.3. Select and launch the file Install.4. Follow the installation instructions

displayed on the PC monitor.5. Connect the programmer to the PC using

the USB cable. 6. The programmer will install itself

automatically.

7.2 Downloading data from the software This chapter describes in brief the downloading of actuator and key plan data (configuration data) from the software to the programmer.

Once the drivers have been installed, the programmer can be used with the desired software (KEM, Kaba exos, etc.) For a detailed description of installing the software please see the software operating instructions, document no. k2evo806en.

Proceed as follows:

Note: Actuators can only be configured and programmed if data has been previously transferred from the software to the programmer.

1. Switch on PC. 2. Start software. 3. Connect the programmer to the PC using the

USB cable. See Section 7.1 on page 29. 4. Transfer the key plans contained in the

software and the associated actuators to the programmer.

5. Use the programmer to find the doors directly, select the relevant data and transfer it to the actuators.

7.3 Adjusting the actuators Actuator settings can be configured either from the software or using the programmer.

1. Switch on PC. 2. Start software. 3. Connect the programmer to the PC using the

USB cable. See Section 7.1 on page 29. Once the software has been started, the date and time of the connected programmer are updated automatically.

Maintenance and troubleshooting

8 Maintenance and troubleshooting

8.1 Battery charge status

The programmer checks the battery charge status when it is first switched on and in the course of operation.

8.2 Charging the battery

If there is insufficient charge in the battery the programmer will indicate this through a dialog on its monitor.

There are two ways to charge the battery. It can be charged via the USB interface and the USB cable to the PC, or alternatively using the mains adapter.

Caution

The battery must only be replaced by another one of the same type; installing a different type of battery will result in damage to the programmer.

Charging the battery using the PC 1. Switch on PC. 2. Connect the programmer to the PC using the

USB cable. 3. The programmer will switch on automatically.4. The programmer automatically charges the

battery if it is connected to the PC.

Charging the battery using the mains adapter 1. Use the USB cable to connect the programmer

to the mains adapter. 2. Insert the mains adapter in a socket. 3. The programmer will switch on automatically.4. The programmer automatically charges the

battery if it is connected to the mains adapter.

Glossary

9 Glossary

BatteryA battery is a device that stores electrical energy.

Actuators Actuators are mechatronic components installed in doors or door frames and opened by authorised media.

Logging in Logging in is authorising a programming master to modify settings on actuators.

Firmware update A firmware update is the updating of the software on the actuators.

Kaba evolo manager Kaba evolo manager is software for configuring and managing different types of actuators in one or more locking system.

ConfiguringConfiguring refers to the changing of settings in the actuators.

Charge statusCharge status is an indicator of the amount of charge remaining in a battery at any given time.

Mechatronic componentsMechatronic components are actuators (see Actuators).

NFCNFC stands for Near Field Communication. This is a transfer protocol for the contactless transfer of data over short distances.

Programming master Programming masters are media with a high level of authorisation. They are used for programming lower-level user media and configuring actuator settings.

Programming Programming is what the programmer does when it stores configurations to the actuators.

Standalone The term standalone is used for any actuator that is installed independently in a door or door frame; they can, however, equally be combined to form a locking system and operated within a management system.

Traceback A traceback is an events log of all connections, transferred authorisations, access attempts and successful accesses.
