Kaba Kaba Estate offers seven bedroom suites – f ive with k ing-s ize beds and two with twin beds convert ible to k ings – each or iented for pr ivacy with garden and r ice-terrace v iews. An eighth room, with two sets of bunk beds, is designed specif ical ly for k ids.

Named after the major banjars (community counci ls ) in the v i l lage, these large suites have marble-edged teakwood parquet f loors spread out under a vaulted alang-alang thatched roof . Stunning ant iques, contemporary paint ings, hand-crafted ikat fabrics and statement furniture create a truly pr incely experience. Four-poster beds with King Koi l P i l low-top mattresses dressed in high-thread-count bed l inen ensure a subl ime night ’s s leep, helped by blackout curtains and a choice of a ir -condit ioning or overhead fan. Al l suites have 32- inch TVs and Blu-ray players with iPod docks and speaker systems, dressing rooms and ensuite bathrooms with statement bathtub. Beringkit master sui te –  From the l ibrary in Kaba Kaba’s main pavi l ion, a corr idor l ined with chi ldren’s paint ings leads to the palat ia l master suite with i ts huge pi l lared bed on a raised platform. The large bathroom attached to this magnif icent suite includes a pr ivate garden with al fresco shower and regal hamam-style sunken bath. Outside is a pr ivate sundeck and 6m x 3m plunge pool bordering the r ice terraces.

Juntal pavi l ion guest sui tes –  Upstairs in the main pavi l ion, the super-s ized Juntal Daja suite is warm and invit ing with Chinese-red wal ls , a r ichly coloured or iental carpet , and stunning black & white pr ints by Bealana Cho. A s i t t ing area extends beyond s l id ing glass doors onto a large terrace where r ice-f ie ld v iews can be enjoyed from a double daybed. Across the breezy hal lway is the twin-bedded Juntal Delod suite with a balcony wrapping two s ides.

Pande pavi l ion guest sui tes and chi ldren’s room –  A pr ivate ironwood deck with c ircular loveseats overlooking a mature Kapok tree is the focus of the spacious colonial -sty led Pande Beten suite. Within the Venet ian-mirrored, marble bathroom, s l id ing shuttered

windows by the bathtub give the opt ion of a long soak-with-a-v iew, as an alternat ive to the garden shower. Above, the Pande Duur suite has the same expansive layout , with a stunning red-and-purple rug offsett ing sty l ish white-painted furniture. This suite a lso has a bathtub-with-a-v iew, plus an ironwood balcony on two s ides. Also on the second level is the k ids ’ room, Pande Al i t , with two sets of bunk beds, beanbags, lots of toys and a fun, colourful ly t i led shower room. The 12m x 2m wading pool l ies just outside this pavi l ion.

Pil i san pavi l ion guest sui tes –  Both suites in the Pi l isan pavi l ion feature wal ls of carved teakwood and beds facing the garden beyond s l id ing glass doors. The Pi l isan Daja suite has i ts own plunge pool just two steps from its stately four-poster bed, and louvred windows opening onto the bathtub in the indoor/outdoor bathroom. The Pi l isan Delod suite is furnished with twin beds that can be conf igured as a k ing, and has both indoor and outdoor showers in i ts bathroom.

Kaba Kaba Estate has an abundance of l iv ing areas spread throughout i ts grounds – some large enough to easi ly accommodate a ful l house of 18, some set back in pr ivate corners for those seeking a quiet retreat from the crowd.

A formal l iv ing room rests at the heart of the estate ’s main bui lding. Conversat ion f lows in this e legant space with generous seat ing, g i lded Burmese and Thai Buddhas displayed against a s i lk- l ined wal l , and spectacular 180-degree v iews beyond the pool and garden. S l id ing glass doors on two s ides can be c losed for a ir -condit ioned cool , or left open for fan-assisted tropical l iv ing.

Two more l iv ing rooms complement the guest pavi l ions. Designer f ibreglass bul ldogs guard the entrance to the l iv ing area. The open-sided Pande l iv ing area exudes Raff les-sty le e legance with i ts diamond-patterned marble f loor , colonial -sty le cane seat ing, steamer trunks, whirr ing paddle fans and cr isp white colour scheme splashed with blue accents from Chinese ceramics. The TV is discreet ly hidden behind s l id ing doors, and pr ide of place is g iven to the stately table with an 18th-century marble top from a Rajasthan palace.
