WHY I CHOSE REAL ESTATE…

Page 3: Real Estate Overview

I chose Real Estate for this class because I have always been surrounded by the Real Estate atmosphere, therefore it was very familiar to me.

My grandmother was a full time real estate agent from 1959 to 1975. I admire her work ethic so much and she has only had good things to say about her time in this occupation.

Growing up, I have always loved homes, talking to people, and advertising, which are few key traits you should master to be successful for this field. I have always been able to see myself as a Realtor, and I thought I try and make my dream feel real.

MY MENTOR! GILSEY CAMPION.

She was born in Port Arthur Texas, raised with one sister and two brothers, she would go on to graduate from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1968.Then she went on to study X-Ray Technology at Lamar University. She then became an X Ray Technologist at Park Place Hospital at Lamar in 1972.During this time, she never gave up on her love for music. She was an active singer for a band and even released a few songs on the radio! She loved singing more than anything. Later on, she realized maybe X Ray Tech wasn't right for her, she thought about it, pushed herself, and became a broker 5 years later! She earned her license in 1979 and became a broker in 1981.She currently has two sons that both live in Austin. This woman is so lovely! She is the neighbor of my best friend who I have known for many years now, and once I found out she was a Realtor, I couldn't resist but to ask her to mentor me! Now she has become even more of a role model and best friend for me.

PROJECTS? Gilsey had me do many things for her while we were together, help her with preparing listings, joining her for showings, and my favorite, answering phone calls!

I loved answering her phone calls for her so much, it gave me a feeling that I was all grown up and an expert in this field. I was so surprised when she asked me to help her in that way. Who would allow a 17 year old to serve for a professional Realtor?

My first phone call was invigorating, The phone rang and my heart was pounding out of my chest, I went to pick it up and the first thing they said on the other line was "I am interested in buying this property on Honey Tree lane." I searched the property online, and as I did so I asked him the proper questions, like "have you met with a realtor before?" "What is your budget?" And "when would you like to meet with misses campion?" They said they would love to meet Tuesday at 2:30.

After I hung up that phone I felt more accomplished than I could remember, I felt as if I had already had the job for 20 years.

INTERVIEWS!

Page 7: Real Estate Overview

GILSEY CAMPION!I figured who better to interview than my mentor! She is one of the best speakers I have ever spoken with, and I couldn't wait to see her responses...She explained to me that in this field, no day is the same, you should expect something new. Also, something very important is to know that you will NOT get rich. If you focus on getting rich, that will assure that you do not. "Too many people associate Real Estate with making money" she said.

PAULETTE BOSTUR!I met this woman with my mentor at the office, I thought she was the cutest old lady I had ever seen and she was incredibly sweet. The first thing she said to me was "my gosh you look like Katy Perry!" I liked her instantly! She had been in Real Estate since 1955 and she has the kindest heart and such a wise mind, I had no doubt that she would provide very invested answers. Many of her answers explained, like before, DO NOT THINK ABOUT YOUR COMMISSION BEFORE YOUR WORK. Which is very eye opening. She also stressed the factor of friendliness. She assured me that if I am as kind and as happy as possible, even if I have to fake it, I will make more success.

DRU BROWN!I shadowed this girl for senior career day! I had so much fun traveling around Westlake with her and viewing so many beautiful homes, she had a very outgoing personality so I thought she might provide some fun answers. She did as I expected and gave me some great advice. The number one thing she made me realize was my need to be flexible. When you're in real estate, you never operate by your hours, it's always your clients. "The client is always right" she states. What ever the client wants, you should do your best to provide it, even if it means dropping plans. Well, plans that aren't vital for your career.

MY FUTURE PLANS?

Page 11: Real Estate Overview

MUSIC!

Page 12: Real Estate Overview

MUSIC PLANS… Music is one of my favorite things. My Parents were in the opera for over ten years, so it is in my blood.

I have been an active member of the Madrigals, Chamber Women, and choirs outside of school and it keeps me bright and hopeful.

I would be absolutely invested in earning a minor degree in music. As an adult, I do not wish to make a living through music, but keep singing for my spirit. I plan to be active in the Opera or an adult professional choir.

I love to sing and perform, it has helped me through more than I have thought, and I have made more accomplishments and earned more awards than I ever dreamed.

REAL ESTATE PLANS…

Page 14: Real Estate Overview

GET MY LICENSE! Aside from being an active singer I have secure plans for getting my Real Estate license!

I am planning on enrolling in the courses in my last year or two of college. They say the earlier you start, the more successful and educated you will be!

The majority of Realtors I have spoken to have said that their biggest regret would have been not starting earlier. In college for instance

Speaking of college…

Page 15: Real Estate Overview

TEXAS STATE!

Page 16: Real Estate Overview

WHY TEXAS STATE? I have been interested in this college for over 4 years now and I see myself as being a true bobcat.

I know many people who graduated, or currently attend this college and all I ever hear is positive feedback! And l am very comfortable with San Marcos.

As I had previously explained I plan to study music, of course, in college and marketing! Marketing skills can be a major boost for realtors, it is all advertising if you think about it.

TIPS FOR REAL ESTATE…?

Page 18: Real Estate Overview

1. BE FLEXIBLE How do you expect to make any business if you are never available to clients?

As a realtor, it is an obligation to make sure to keep your time open for clients, remember, the client is always right!

Page 19: Real Estate Overview

2. BE FRIENDLY! Who likes a rude realtor? Nobody! How do you expect to sell something as life changing as a home with a bad attitude? If you figure out how to sell a home while being rude, let me know.

To earn the respect of your client you have to think like a people pleaser. Is there anything you can do to help them? Or is there anything else they need?

Page 20: Real Estate Overview

3. LOOK YOUR BEST! This might sound superficial, but have you ever heard the expression "first impressions are the best ones"? Well it's true! People will respect you and trust you much more if you look put together, well groomed, and professional!

It is a mental thing that you can't avoid, it is just a fact that people tend to judge first based on appearances, so make yours something to be taken seriously!

FINALLY, MY MENTORSHIP EXPERIENCE!

Page 22: Real Estate Overview

THANK YOU, MENTORSHIP!In conclusion, I am so thankful for this class.Without the option to be with someone in the career field that you want is more than any other school has.Kids at Westlake don't always realize how privileged they are to have this course available to them, it is really amazing how much it can help you be more prepared for the outside world.I know that I feel so blessed to have taken this course and learned from it.I feel more prepared than ever for my career path and so blessed to have this opportunity. Thank you.
