Special Presentation Friday, December 11, 6:30 PM Author Akira Kitade will speak to us about his book “Visas of Life and the Epic Journey” Akira Kitade was born in Japan in 1944. He graduated from Keio University with a degree in French Literature, and went to work for the Japan National Tourist Organization. He spent many years researching the story of Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat during World War II, who saved over 6,000 Jews by issuing them visas to get them out of Europe. Mr. Kitade’s book was finally published in 2012. While conducting interviews with survivors in the United States, Mr. Kitade managed to locate one of Sugihara’s Jews in a photograph at the Japanese Tourist Bureau. The photograph was of Sonia Reed, mother of our congregant David Reed.
