Kaji Aso Founder

Life is Adventure Painter, poet, philosopher, tenor, marathoner, teacher, mentor, adventurer, and inspiration, Mr. Kaji Aso was the founder and director of Kaji Aso Studio/ Gallery Nature and Temptation from 1973 until 2006, the year of his passing. Though educated in Japan, and returning there twice yearly, Mr Aso settled in Boston where he taught, exhibited, concertized, lectured and generally impacted the art life here. From his unique perspective, he bridged the gap between East and West, and tirelessly sought out the universal value in all the arts which he pursued. His was a multidisciplinary approach, and to this day it is not uncommon to experience poetry in one room, watercolor painting in the next, singing in the music room, ceramics in the basement, all under one roof. The interrelatedness of these forms, compositions sprung from a desire to create, lends a unique approach to art education in the Boston area.

"Art does not come from art...art comes from life." Kaji Aso Studio continues to hold classes in a wide range of the arts for beginners as well as advanced students. Participants are always encouraged to use the material of their everyday lives as the source of artistic activity, it is a vision of art that is accessible to anyone who desires and is willing to make the effort. Our goal is to create a spirited constructive haven for students to study, learn and create. It is our legacy from Mr. Aso, and it continues strong and healthy at 40 Saint Stephen Street. JOIN US!
