Main Question: Investigating different types of 3D cadastral objects in the context of an efficient spatial development lifecycle.

Research Summary: Managing property rights and restrictions in 3D, and their spatial extent, is part of making cities liveable, resilient and sustainable, while cadastral information plays an important role in their development. Hence, weighing the added value of 3D Cadastre in the full cycle of spatial development and Geo-Information Infrastructure context is a challenge. With the adoption of Land Administration Domain Model as ISO standard (ISO19152) progress has been made, as it increasingly plays a key role at international level. Nowadays, the development of LADM II is on its way within ISO & OGC and this PhD research closely relates to LADM revision. Attention will be paid on modelling, managing and reusing different types of 3D spatial units as part of the spatial development chain/BIM cycle & investigating whether it is possible to assess the added value of 3D Cadastre within the spatial development lifecycle or identify the impacts when not adopting it.

Research Methodology: 1.

2.

Requirements analysis of the different types of 3D spatial units considering the complexity of their actual shape (geometric primitives/topological structure) & reference to other surfaces/objects;3D spatial profiles design at a conceptual level to efficiently model & represent 3D spatial units;

3. Requirements investigation of various encodings/ technical models (CityGML, BIM/IFC,IndoorGML, LandInfra, INTERLIS, etc.);

4. Functionality will be tested using Greek & Dutch use cases and usability via a 3D web-basedplatform;

5. Metrics & indicators will be investigated to assess the added value of the 3D Cadastre in thespatial development lifecycle and the impacts from not applying 3D Cadastre.
