(P&C) AGM

Narromine Public School is fortunate to have a

passionate and energetic P&C team.

The 2018 leadership group consists of:

Crystal Paine - President

Sophia Heckendorf - Vice President

Louise Woods - Secretary

Kristel Chapman – Treasurer

All positions have been filled, however we still encourage all

parents and careers to be involved and come along to meetings.

Thank you to the outgoing Treasurer Sandra Irvine who has been a

fabulous treasurer for many, many years. Sandra’s dedication and

support has been instrumental in the productiveness of our P&C,

she has volunteered and given freely of her time and we are truly

grateful to Sandra and team Irvine for all they have done and

continue to do for the children and staff at NPS.

Already this year the P&C has:

Assisted with our Fairfax Community Grant for the 2018

Connect All, Marathon Health Project.

Approved and supported the 2018 draft NPS Mobile

Technologies policy.

Consulted on the Kiss and Drop Zone.

Contributed to our School Plan and Annual School Report.

Facilitated the 2018 Easter raffle.

Coordinated the uniform pool and manned a uniform sale at

the Easter Hat Parade.

Provided a canteen for the Term 1 PBL school social next week.

Provided Kindy Packs including a school hat to new

Kindergarten students.

The P&C team at NPS is a parent body who meet twice a term to

share and discuss educational opportunities for the students. They

provide verbal and timely feedback to the Principal in relation to

school business, they operate our school canteen and facilitate all

the fun activities that the children share in including the mother’s

day and father’s day stalls, a variety of raffles, the bi-annual fete and catering for special school events. The staff and

I greatly value the families who attend and support our P&C. This organisation works hand in hand to enhance the

educational outcomes of our school. Being a part of this team requires no exceptional skillset just a sense of humour,

a positive attitude and a willingness to be involved in your school. We would encourage all our families to be

involved in P&C activities as engagement in your school’s P&C assists in creating a positive community culture within

your child’s school. The next meeting is Monday 7 May at 4.30pm in the school staff room.

Rage Last week was the celebration of our Mission Australia Emotions RAGE project for Stage 3. The children have been working for 6 weeks on a Tuesday with Mission Australia workers Stacey and Emily, along with the NPS team – Mrs Hilder, Mrs Walden, Ms Paine, Ms Kelly, Mrs Turnbull, Mrs Walsh, Miss Rapone, and Mrs Baker. The feedback from the students and staff has been very positive and the overwhelming engagement of the children in practicing, using and understanding the strategies has made solid connections to our PDHPE curriculum.

We would like to thank Mission Australia for their ongoing relationship with Narromine Public School, their support is greatly appreciated.

Changes for term 2 at NPS

I would like to acknowledge Mrs Betts and Mrs Kazem who finish up in their current capacity at the end of this term.

Mrs Kazem’s release from face to face classes (2M, 1S, 1M, KK and KO) and a component of Mrs Betts support

lessons will be continued by Mrs Nadia Gavin our newly appointed staff member. Mrs Betts and Mrs Kazem will

continue to be a part of the NPS family in a casual capacity. We will officially introduce Mrs Gavin to our community

in our first newsletter in Term 2.

Office – Out of Action this week

You will have noticed the Administration Office is head to toe in scaffolding. The office roof is being repaired and will

hopefully be completed by Thursday. Until we are safe to move back into the Admin block the office and staffroom

will be operating out of the library in a reduced capacity, we thank you for your patience and understanding.

The second phase to our roofing repairs will be in Jarrah Block (the Kindergarten, Year 3 and 4 block). This will see

the children relocated to Banksia block (Year 5 and 6 block) for the final days of term. We are anticipating the capital

works will be completed before our return on the 1 May.

Stewart House Donation Drive A reminder that entries for the Stewart House Donation Drive are due by 11 May 2018. PBL Reward Bridget won 'Cooking Class' in the PBL draw for her class - 3/4R. The class made fairy bread and had a fabulous afternoon. Thank you Bridget for receiving a Super Val, going in the draw and being drawn out! SRC Pink Stumps Day – TOMORROW (Wednesday 4 April)

Don’t forget there is lots happening for Pink Stumps this fortnight

and tomorrow (Wednesday 4 April) is the Pink Dress Up Day and

Cupcake Stall. Students are invited to wear all shades of pink and

bring a gold coin donation. The annual cupcake stall will be

happening at lunchtime at the canteen. The delicious cupcakes

generously donated by our SRC students and families will range

from 50 cents to $1.

Also during the week:

• Pink marshmallow guessing competition- ticket selling 26 March to 6 April Students will have the opportunity to guess how many marshmallows are in the jar. The SRC members will run this event throughout lunchtime. The cost for a guess will be 50 cents. The winner will be announced at our Monday morning assembly 9 April. • Pink Stumps raffle- ticket selling 26 March to 6 April Students will have the opportunity to purchase a ticket to go into the draw to win a pink bat, stumps and a ball. SRC members will run this event throughout lunchtime. The cost for a guess will be $1. The winner will be announced at our Monday morning assembly 9 April. Year 6 T-Shirts A reminder to Year 6 students that orders and money ($36 per shirt) for their Year 6 T-shirts are due by Friday 6 April.


Family Literacy Challenge

Congratulations to last fortnight’s winners! You have to be in it to win it so get your family team together to complete the challenges. There is a box in the front office to submit your entries. To collect the prize you need to make sure you have one name of a family member per entry. For example: The Smith family – John Smith 3/4EG The Challenges

K-2 (ES1 & S1 ) - Find words that rhyme with tree. Yr 3&4 (S2) – Make an alliteration sentence about your favourite animal. Yr 5&6 (S3) – Write down all the synonyms for the word ‘happy’. Cricket and Tee Ball Gala Day On Friday 23 March we travelled to Peak Hill to play cricket and tee-ball in the NARRAF Gobonderry gala day. We played against a lot of teams. We had a really good time and it was pretty fun. I enjoyed it. - Charlotte Hutchison We played against Trangie and Warren. It was really fun playing Kanga Cricket. We were so tired when we had finished and were coming home. I even fell asleep on the bus! - Rakaia Skinner. Once we got to Peak Hill we set up and got ready for our games. We played four games of tee ball and won one. We played against Tullamore, Trangie, Tottenham and Peak Hill. It was really fun. PSSA Cricket On Tuesday 27 March, Narromine Public School played Dubbo Public in round two of the PSSA knockout. Although the contest was very close for some time, the greater experience of the Dubbo players resulted in a convincing win for them. The NPS bowling was very competitive with excellent work in the first 12 overs. Particular mention must be made of Tom Dennis whose second over was fast and accurate resulting in a wicket, and Noah Richards who put in two of the most consistent spells I have seen from an NPS bowler for some time, his effort in the 25th over was quite special. Darby Gordon bowled very well, as did Jamari Clarke and Jack Wilson for a first outing. Unfortunately, the Dubbo bowling was at a pace that only a few of our players have encountered and we lost wickets steadily. Skipper, Harry Irvine, did a great job of encouraging his team and the younger players responded well to his leadership. There are a few special mentions: Andrew Smith who showed fantastic enthusiasm and skill in the field, Travis Brassington who tried very hard to mount a fightback, Zac Everett whose bowling was dangerous at times, and Jack Wilson who was struck by a ball that kicked and had to retire hurt. Jack was well bruised, but came back as the wickets fell and faced the fastest of the bowlers. The effort of the Year 5 players indicates a strong team nucleus for next year. The boys showed good sportsmanship at all times, following the example of their leaders Harry and Zac. They did what was asked of them to the best of their ability, I was proud of their effort and they should be as well. - Mr Webb


Stage 3 Excursion Recently we took the Stage 3 students on an excursion to the

Illawarra. Our students were able to learn about life in the

1850s, learn about the Gold Rush in Mogo, learn bush dancing,

listen to a cultural talk, go gold panning, visit the Mogo Zoo

and Kiama Blowhole, go on the Scenic Railway, cable car and

Skyway. Our students were wonderfully behaved and many

commented on their beautiful manners. The students learnt

lots of new things and had many new experiences. Thank you

to the Stage 3 teachers and Mrs King for supervising the

excursion, thank you to the Stage 3 teachers that supervised

remaining students and to Mrs Hilder for the excursion

organisation.

Below are some of the things that our students really enjoyed:

I absolutely loved visiting the zoo and seeing the white tiger. Miles

I loved going to the gold rush colony because we were allowed to pan for gold. Tairae

I loved going to the scenic railway because we got to go on three things, the railway, cable car and skyway. We also

got to go for a walk. Hope

I loved to pan for gold in the gold rush colony at Mogo and finding gold. Cameron

I really liked panning for gold. Alex

I loved going to the Mogo Zoo because I loved the animals and things like feeding them. Lily Walker

I loved going to the Kiama Blowhole. It was fun and I learnt a lot of new things. Kylie

I liked the tour around the old town of Mogo. Eliza

I liked going on the Skyway at Scenic World. Sophie

I loved all of the amazing rides at Scenic World. The railway was terrifying but I really enjoyed it. Amanda

I enjoyed spending time with my friends and going in the pool. Isabel Haylan

I really liked the part when we went to Scenic World and when we met Um. I also liked the zoo. Abby

I loved the Mogo Zoo because they had the white lion and heaps of other animals. My favourite animals were the

On our excursion I liked the gold rush colony because we got to go gold panning and I found some gold. I also liked

that we went to Scenic World and we went on the Skyway, railway and skyline. I also liked that we could go shopping.

Stage 3 Excursion I liked the gold rush colony at Mogo and Scenic World because they were

fun. I rate this excursion 5 stars. Lachie

I liked everything in Mogo and Kiama but it was very interesting learning

about Aboriginal culture in Mogo with a person named Rod. (I also got a

I liked going to the zoo and seeing all the animals. Chaviah

What I loved about the Stage 3 excursion was the accommodation,

Scenic world, cable cars, skyway and the world’s steepest railway. I also

liked panning for gold, making damper and making our own toy. We

learned that living in the 1850s was tough and if you didn’t find gold you

My favourite thing on the excursion was the Scenic World cable cars and

the Skyway, the world’s steepest train, gold panning and the talent

NPS P&C

The Narromine Public School P&C would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who supported our Easter Raffle last week. It was a great success and we thank you all for your very kind donations and for purchasing tickets. All money raised is put directly back into the school. There were some very happy faces coming up to collect their prizes on the day. Last Monday the P&C held their AGM and are excited to say that all positions have been filled. Our next meeting will be on Monday 7 May at 4.30pm in the school staff room. EVERYONE is welcome to attend. You don't need to have an

official role on the committee, or even have been to one before to come along. Our door is open and we would love to see some new faces coming along. Drop in, say hi and see what we are all about!
