"Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand which plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul”- Wassily Kandinsky

“Colorful Ensemble”

•Painted 1938•Contemplate• The painting uses warm colors the are

painted on, and some of the parts are glass•Interpret• I believe the artist painted this because his

heart was infected by what his parents wanted for him (to be a lawyer).

•Appreciate•This painting has a positive meaning for me• The dots and lines on this image resemble a

motherboard, in the outline of what can be interpreted as a brain.

•Observe• It looks like a satellite image of a busy

metropolitan area• It also resembles a circuit board.

Page 6: Kandinsky

“Sky Blue”

•Contemplate• This painting uses very bright colors

•Interpret• Everything appears to be going swell at a

first glance of this picture• Once you look closely, it appears that the

figures are falling down to earth from their flight

•Appreciate• The bright colors and descending objects

remind me of that stage when a toddler leaves his baby talk, bottles of mil, and simple toys for Pre-school, and Hotwheels and action figures.

•Observe• It looks like clothes was let out of a

suitcase from a plane.• I see an anteater, a gecko, a toucan, and a

platypus.

Page 7: Kandinsky

“Bride. Russian Beauty”

•Contemplate• Very dry and neutral colors are used in the

painting• The painting appears to be painted by dabs of a

brush, instead of strokes•Interpret• The painting may symbolize one of his partners

that awaited official marriage, but it never came. Kandinsky later married another woman (3 wives total)

•Appreciate•This picture represents what most women dream of; Marriage.•This reminds me of the Biblical parable of the Ten Virgins •Observe• The picture shows a woman beside a pond

overlooked by a building that appears to be a church.
