Orlan, Thanks for the pictures in the last KAR.Last Sunday on our way home from a vacation/tour of Washington DC. Lance, WN0L from Colon, Ne. came into Omaha (we flew out of Omaha) and checked my cards for the Fred Fish Memorial Award which is administered by the ARRL. Also did a 900 grid square endorsement on my 6m VUCC (VHF UHF Century Club) which is also administered by the ARRL. I should receive FFMA #6. Working all U.S. grid squares on 6 meters took 33 years 8 months 17 days 23 hours and 27 minutes.

u There have been many movies and docudramas depicting the Pearl Harbor attack. Most, particularly, the onessupposedly based on fact, showed short quips of a couple of P-40 pilots getting airborne and shooting down Japplanes. But I, for one, never had seen the true story and more detailed info on who these two pilots were and their actions and associated events while airborne. The youtube site below contains a superb video of that story. Hope you'll pass it on to other AF/Navy vets and others as desired. u I attempted to take a few pictures of last night's "Blood Moon"/eclipse. This was the best of the lot. Camera was a Cannon EOS Rebel T3 with an image stabilized 55-250 mm f4.0 zoom lens at full zoom. Exposure data: aperture f4.0, shutter 1/60th of a second. The camera's resolution was set at max (12 megapixels). I have to hand it to Cannon, the electronic image stabilization of these medium telephoto lenses is quite impressive. Jim Sheldon WØEB

u HOW IS NORMA?

This is hilarious !!

A sweet grandmother telephoned St. Joseph 's Hospital. She timidly asked, "Is it possible to speak to someone who can tell me how a patient is doing?"The operator said, "I'll be glad to help, dear. What's the name and room number of the patient?"The grandmother in her weak, tremulous voice said, "Norma Findlay, Room 302." The operator replied, "Let me put you on hold while I check with the nurse's station for that room."

After a few minutes, the operator returned to the phone and said, "I have good news. Her nurse just told me that Norma is doing well. Her blood pressure is fine; her blood work just came back normal and her physician, Dr. Cohen, has scheduled her to be discharged tomorrow."The grandmother said, "Thank you. That's wonderful. I was so worried. God bless you for the good news."The operator replied, "You're more than welcome. Is Norma your daughter?"The grandmother said, "No, I'm Norma Findlay in Room 302. No one tells me a thing. TRUE STORY

u Recently, we moved to our dream place, 25 mi. South & West of Denver (Sedalia, CO), and through an incredible series of hassles, FINALLY got hi-speed internet to the house (It'd been there before, but we had to overcome the arguments of CenturyLink (century-jinx), our provider. I began to observe S9 +5dB noise levels on my IC-756 ProII, and just about any other piece of radio gear - INCLUDING the entire 2m band, public service (including our local County Fire Dispatch!), and basically, everything from about 2.5 mHz, all the way past 500 mHz+. The signal constantly shifted frequency, and had tons of harmonics, plus more spikes than a Goth concert. This was all verified by looking at it on an IFR 1000S'sspectrum analyzer. Turning off the Direct TV did nothing (good, 'cause the new types are wireless), ahhh, but turning off the modem IMMEDIATELY got rid of the noise-level, and I was back down to S-Ø, as before the wretched box came into our lives. As it turns out, it's the WiFi feature that is in OBVIOUS VIOLATION of the FCC's Part-15 (not that anybodybut me, gives a damn), so hopefully, I can turn that function off, and still have internet. My reason for writing is to give all of you a "heads up", if you have such a problem - I noticed it up in Denver, but wasn't able to pin it down, but NOW... it's an OBVIOUS PROBLEM that will be brought to their (and other's) attention. Our spectrum allocations are FULL of junk such as this, and often it's the Amateur who gets blamed for things of this nature. Tom DaileyWØEAJ

Hey, Tom, I dealt with the same problem here in KC with the Time-Warner cable modem My solution was a CAT6 cable andfour toroids with 12-14 turns around each toroid. Didn’t affect the Internet speed, but it choked all of the HF crap out. I wrote an article for QST a couple of years ago and they published it. I even got a plaque for the best articleof the month! (The $350 was nice too.) The article is on page 37 of the June 2013 QST. Basically, I used a type 31 and a type 61 toroid at each end of the cable. 73, Bob Wilson, NTØA
