PURPOSEThe purpose of this course is to review all areas of study that you have covered since
starting your undergraduate degree at Saba. It also gives you a chance to do a diagnosticexamination at the outset to define areas that may need special attention from you in your
studies. The final exam will be a NBME Basic Science Comprehensive Shelf Exam.
There is another online test available at the end of the course to assess your progress andpossibly areas that may need more review before taking the USMLE1.
TOOLS
You will be given several books which cover the content of all the lectures. In additionyou will have access to the PLS system. You should also be using standard textbooks to
supplement your reading, especially in areas that you find you are weak.
COURSE CONTENT (general)Besides watching lectures daily on the Kaplan secure server, there will be one diagnostic,
and one NMBE Comprehensive final. The Kaplan diagnostic exam and orientation
sequence must be taken in order to open the PSL system. Once this system is open, youwill also have access to many quizzes and exams. The comprehensive shelf will be taken
after the course in the testing center (online).
TIME INVOLVEMENTThe course will being Jan 8, 2012 with an introductory meeting by the Kaplan
Representative. From Jan 8 to March 11, the Kaplan Course will run daily (2 to 4 pm) 5
days a week in CR#5. Please note that Kaplan will run on exam days. From March 12on forward, Kaplan will be viewed for 8 hours per day (8:00 am to 4:30pm) in
preparation for the Pathology Shelf on April 12. Kaplan will run daily with exception to
dates listed on calendar. The total length of instruction is about 200 hours. Any changes
to the schedule must be coordinated with Administration. The NMBE Shelf will be onFriday, December 6 @ 8:30am. The schedule for the week of April 15-18 will be
discussed with your class by the Dean.
ATTENDANCE
This course is mandatory and attendance will be taken daily. All students must stay
in the class and watch the lecture series. If you miss more than 20% of the course youwill not get credit for it (15 days). Attendance will be taken twice daily. If you miss one
part of the day, that will count as 1/2day absence.
SECURITYThere will be no recording devices allowed in the lecture room. Any person found trying
to copy material will be subject to disciplinary action. This security is extremely
important, if these guide lines are not followed and students are found copying material
the privilege of having this course will be removed by Kaplan and we shall have tocompensate Kaplan.

SABA UNIVERSITY POLICY relating to the Medical Board Review Course
(Kaplan)
All students must achieve a minimum passing score as determined by theDeans. The final will be an NBME exam.
If a student receives a failing grade that student will receive an I for thecourse and must return the following semester and retake the entireKaplan course at no cost. Once a repeating student passes the course, the
I will be replaced by P. Students will be permitted 3 attempts to pass
the NBME Comprehensive Exam. Students will not be placed onAcademic Probation in the event that they fail the NBME Examination.
