Get on the roadThe great Australian road trip is a feature of many of our childhoods but why not take it up a notch and hire a campervan or caravan and set out on an adventure to explore our diverse country There are many companies who offer campervan hire and although spending time cooped up on the road may not sound appealing to everyone yoursquoll be rewarded with some great quality family time and make some treasured memories experiencing our great land together

Activities galoreAlthough camping does often mean making your own fun it doesnrsquot have to be completely up to mum and dad to think of activities If you head to one of the many caravan parks up and down the coast like ones run by Big4 yoursquoll find plenty to keep the kids entertained Therersquos giant jumping pillows pools waterparks playgrounds and sometimes even centres run by the park with craft and activities Plus your kids are sure to make friends with the one of the other families staying nearby

Take fourCamping is one of the best ways to spend time as a family Herersquos four reasons to pack your bags and get away from it all

Get in touch with natureIf yoursquore living in the city it can be easy to forget how much the country has to offer in the way of wildlife and landscapes One way to take advantage of this natural asset is to book a trip with a specialist hiking operator like Australian Walking Holidays who run hiking trips designed for families You can choose to experience camping in the bush while walking the Top Endrsquos Jatbula Trail visiting several waterfalls and swimming holes along the way Or trekking through Tasmaniarsquos unspoilt Freycinet National Park using bikes and canoes

Camping for non-campersSome people are simply not built for lsquoroughing itrsquo in the bush but that doesnrsquot necessarily mean you should put a red pen through the idea Introducing the glamping trip all of the fun of camping and none of the mess There are many great spots around Australia that offer glamping accommodation beautiful nature spots coupled with the creature comforts of home such as hot showers flush toilets and soft beds

As much as Australia is synonymous for having large expanses of bush to explore the best places to camp in our often-rugged wilderness are not always easy to work out Consult a travel agent to find out where the best spots and hidden gems are in your state
