Compared to gasoline vehicles, gas-fueled vehicles that use natural gas or similar fuel emit less greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and hazardous substances such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM). Besides, since they are relatively inexpensive, their use is increasing mainly in Southeast Asia. Being smaller and lighter, the newly developed NGV system contributes to good fuel economy of gas-fueled vehicles while maintaining a performance equivalent to or higher than that of the previous model. In addition, Keihin’s original control system allows it to be installed in various vehicle models and engines, ranging from compact vehicles to heavy duty vehicles, vehicles with a supercharger-equipped engine and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vehicles, and this also helps to reduce the cost of the entire system. This new NGV system has started to be supplied to Honda “City CNG” released in Thailand in September as a bi-fuel system where two types of fuel, natural gas and gasoline, are used. Keihin will keep developing attractive products that are superior in environmental performance to supply them globally.

Keihin develops new NGV system for natural gas vehicles

Keihin Corporation (Head office: Shinjuku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Tsuneo Tanai) has developed a

new special fuel supply system for natural gas vehicles (NGV). Compared to gasoline vehicles, gas-fueled vehicles that use natural gas or similar fuel emit less

greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and hazardous substances such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM).

In addition, Keihin’s original control system allows it to be installed in various vehicle models and engines, ranging from compact vehicles to heavy duty vehicles, vehicles with a supercharger-equipped engine and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vehicles, and this also helps to reduce the cost of the entire system.

them globally.

New NGV system

Keihin first released products for gas-fueled vehicles in 1997 and since then, has supplied them to customers all over the world. This new NGV system consists of a gas fuel injector, second ECU that controls gas fuel injection via cooperative control with the engine Electronic Control Unit (ECU), pressure regulator that decompresses the high-pressure natural gas in the tank to supply it to the injector at a constant pressure, and oil trap filter that eliminates oil from natural gas. This NGV system can be used for both mono-fuel vehicles that use natural gas only and bi-fuel vehicles that use both natural gas and gasoline.
