60 Second Lesson

In the 60 second lesson plan the teacher might indicate that the term zero has several meanings.

Zero means nothing. ‘’If you have zero candy, you have no candy.’’ Zero is a placeholder when we are writing numbers.

In the number 100 the zeros tell us that the number is a LOT more than 1

The teacher can then delete a zero and ask, ‘’What is the number?’’ The number is 10. The zero tells us that it is more than 1 but less that 100.

Understanding Place Value Before students can understand place

value, they must understand numeration.

The students practiced fraction, decimal, and percent. They had to explain place value when picking the decimal card.

Set up the numbers.

Tie down the sign.

Discover the sign.

Read the problem.

Answer or draw a conceptual representation of the problem, using lines, tallies, and check.

Write the answer.
