01Portraits

“Every Portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not the sitter.” - Oscar Wilde

Well in this case it would be a photograph instead of a painting. Portraits are something that I love to do. Being able to capture and preserve an emotion is an amazing thing.

This photograph was captured at Bannack Ghost Town in Montana. It is titled “Glare B&W”. It was taken on my Canon T3 at 53mm. An Einstein Strobe with and Octabox was used to achieve this look.

“Indian Girl”“Photography is the only language that can be understood anywhere in the world.”-Bruno Barbey

This is one of my favorite portraits I was able to take. I took this while in Bannack Ghost Town out in Montana.

It was an intersting shot to capture. We walked out into some sage brush and I got down to a low angle to snap it. I never realized I was standing in an ant pile!

I took this on my Canon T3 and used a reflector. I did minimal editing after. I increased the exsposure and contrast and then removed some make-up from her hand.

04Fine Art

“Fine art is that in which the hand, the head, and the heart of man go together.”-John Ruskin

These fine art shots are some of my favorites out of the ones I did. Portraits are typically the type of photos I gravitate towards. This being said, I found it very difficult to take pictures of objects rather than humans. But this type of photograph has grown on me and has helped me learn to travel out of my comfort zone.

07Creative“To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”- Unknown

Growing up I never really thought I was creative. It was something I thought I had not been blessed with. But little did I know we all have the ability to be creative... we just can’t be scared of being different from everyone else. This section showcases different creative photographs I was able to capture while in Bannack Ghost Town in Montana.

“Floating Girl”“Float through life, just take it easy, not too much stress, just float.”-Freja Beha Erichsen

This photo was interesting to create. It is actually more than one image. In the original image the model was standing on a bench. I placed the camera on a tripod and took a second shot of the same location but without the model.

I later placed the two images in Adobe Photoshop where I removed the bench from the first image and placed the second image underneath it. By doing this I was able to make the model appear as if she were floating.

After doing this I applied minor edits to make the image black and white. 10

“Be yourself because an original is worth more than a copy.”-Unknown

I live for portraits. I’ve always found people to be the most interesting to photograph. You can see and feel so many different emotions through photographing individuals.

This section contains some of my favorite portraits I was able to capture. The fact that they are of friends make them so much more special to me.

“Our Album ‘Bout To Drop”

“When you photograph a face... you photograph the soul behind it.”- Jean- Luc Godard

This photo was fun to capture. While I was out exploring Rexburg I found this old train with tons of graffiti on it. It was something I wanted to use in some of my photographs and I thought why not use it for some fun portraits.

I had some friends come out and model and was able to capture some fun shots. Minimal editing was done.

Depth15

“It’s not about the length of life, but the depth.”-Ralph Waldo Emerson

The images in this section are some of my favorite depth photos I was able to capture.

I love playing with the depth in my different images. But I always tend to like those with shallow depth. I love the look of there being one sharp object with the rest being blurred.

17MacroStay close to anything that makes you glad you are alive.”- Hafez

Macro is something that I never would have guessed I would love. It is something that I have fallen completely and madly in love with.

Both of the images in this section were tak-en using close-up lenses. I found it extreme-ly difficult to capture both photographs due to the amount of time it took me to get clear shots. Both images are of two tiny plants that were growing out of the gravel outside my apartment. By using an eyedroper I was able to place a water drop on one.

About the PhotographerKellie Hack

Photography is something that began as a hobby of mine and slowly transformed into one of my greatest passions.

I live to capture the often forgotten moments. With my camera I am reminded that there is beauty all around... I just have to stop and focus.

This book is a compilation of photographs I was able to take and create in my Digital Imaging class while attending BYU-Idaho.
