The Kempner Parent Volunteer Board

The Kempner Parent Volunteer Board is a non-profit organization which originated in 1988 upon the opening of Kempner High School. The purpose of this organization is to provide hands-on assistance to the staff and faculty, benefiting the students of Kempner High. Come join us and volunteer in our endeavors!

President: Oversees and sets agenda of Parent Volunteer Board. Functions as a liaison between the campus and the parents.

Parent Volunteer Job Descriptions

1st Vice President: Assists President. Assumes presidency in case of default. Heads up team one of the volunteer board. Team one consists of historian, newsletter, publicity, school board liaisons, and Shared Dreams. 2nd Vice President: Assists President. Heads up team two of the volunteer board. Team two consists of clinic coordinator, hospitality, popcorn, social coordinator, and textbooks.

Secretary: Records minutes of monthly board meeting and presents previous month’s minutes for approval. Mails reminder card to board members prior to each meeting. Treasurer: Responsible for the Board’s financial accounts. Prepares a monthly report for board meetings. Obtains change for necessary sales and events. VIPS Coordinators: Recruit volunteers, prepare and administer volunteer survey at school functions, report volunteer hours (including booster clubs) to the District VIPS office and attend all District monthly VIPS meetings. Distribute the names/numbers of volunteers wishing to assist Board Coordinators and encourage utilization of volunteers. Procure volunteers to prepare school mail-outs. Recognize volunteer of the month. Responsible for the annual decorations of Kempner’s Christmas tree.

Administrative Coordinator: Schedules volunteers for counselor’s office, registrars office, main office, assistant principal’s offices, and attendance office. Clinic Coordinator: Schedules volunteers for clinic needs. Historian: Takes pictures and prepares a yearly scrapbook recording events. Responsible for VIPS Kempner Web site.Hospitality: Arranges breakfast for KHS faculty and staff before beginning of school year. Arranges two luncheons for faculty and staff each year, one per semester. Coordinates refreshments for the annual VIPS Coffee.

Newsletter: Prepares 6 newsletters for mail-out to Kempner parents. Procures volunteers to assist with the newsletter mail-out. Shares information with publicity coordinator. Popcorn Fund Raiser: Responsible for popcorn/snack sales. Schedules volunteers to assist activity.

Student/Faculty Services: Assist the counselors with special projects, needs knowledge of word processing. Provide a simple luncheon for the Crisis Counselors Team supporting Kempner staff/faculty and students. Assist the senior breakfast at end of school year.Publicity: Prepares press releases for local papers. Solicits pictures and information from faculty and parents for publicity needs. Shares information with newsletter editor.

School Board Liaison: Attends FBISD school board meetings and reports items of interest and concern to the Board. Facilitates communications between the school board and the school. Keeps Kempner’s Need’s List updated. Shared Dreams: Liaison between Kempner and the FBISD Shared Dreams Coordinator. Schedules volunteers to assist Shared Dreams. Conducts an incidental clothes drive.Social Coordinator: Schedules two board luncheons, one in December and one in May. Assist President with specific social requests..

Textbooks: Assist the Assistant Principal responsible for the academic textbooks. Understand and assist with the textbook procedures. Procure and direct volunteers to help during the distribution and collection process (3 times per year)..
